im just wondering if its worth me paying for them to assemble my hypothetical modular, or if its easy enough to do it myself... |

We used to.
They were hopeless.
That's why we don't now.
Don't forget, electo-music, Muffs forum, and the dopefer yahoo group are excellent resources with a great many people who are more than happy to part with information and answer questions.
Cheers,

Cheers, dude! It was a beginner's perspective so if it encouraged fellow noobies to look into modular, I'm happy! _________________ My music: here! |

Well it encouraged me enough to get my Curetronic/MFOS setup. Can't say I'm sorry about it.

It also played a part in my recent purchase. I'm having 12u of Analogue Systems delivered on Wednesday and your article, along with this forum, muffwiggler forum and of course, Bob Williams of ASys, who was very patient with my continual rejigging of the system, all helped. Thank you |

That's great to hear! I have to say, Analogue Systems were extremely helpful to me in my initial enquiries - and that's when they didn't know I was writing the article. Bodes well for how they treat the average punter.
Congrats on your new system! Pics? Musical / sound snippets? _________________ My music: here! |

yeah that's nice.
jyoti, i just came across your SOS article again last night when i was going through a pile of old magazines. (this always turns into a lengthy browsing session. )
anyway it's prompted me to (almost literally) blow the dust off my ASys modular, buy it a couple of new modules for Xmas and get it fired up again. sadly i've been neglecting it of late in favour of other new toys, including software ones, but i reckon it's time to get up to my ears in wire spaghetti again.
so your writing continues to inspire. |

here's a pic of the system a wee while ago:
the modular is lower down now and the speakers have come down to a more sensible altitude.
as you can see there are a few gaps. i need to see to those. |

Oh wow! I love it! I was tinkering with my far more modest system the other day and again lost a couple of hours. Not good since I'm meant to be doing essays for Uni. But, damn, they're just so twiddly!
Hogberto, what would you say is a must-have module for me? _________________ My music: here! |

get a step sequencer if you don't already have one.
the ASys RS200 is a lot of fun. i got 2.
and a quantiser (e.g. ASys RS260) to keep the step sequencer in tune and to transpose the sequences.
and so on and so on…
i have to say though that i'm lusting after some cwejman modules these days. i had an S1 Mk2 but sold it last year. beautiful synth. so maybe 2010 will be Cwejman Year down my way. |

Thank you very much for the advice!
Hmmm... you have got me very intrigued. I'd love to do some polyrhythmic stuff and I know that's a piece of piss with step sequencers. Plus, I'd love to hook all that up to my 808 and 202. No MIDI!
Time to go earn some money... _________________ My music: here! |

that's an impressive AS system there -makes my 9U one seem a bit on the small side. Cant help but notice your A6 though. So there's at least one in Scotland!

heh heh. yes, the Andy started life in Ayrshire but i bought it a couple of years back, so now it's enjoying life on the east coast. i'm sure there must be a few other of them sprinkled around Scotland though.
as for the ASys system, it started as a little 3U minisystem. it's amazing how quickly these things grow with a little TLC. and a crapload of cash. |
