VCS 3 Matrix |

So, After I get things straight with my WSG, I plan to start a Clone of the EMS VCS 3 using MFOS Soundlab kit components. I was going to do the "Patched out mod" but decided that I didn't want the wires. I remebered the Matrix panels used on the EMS products and how innovative they were but know a days are impossible to find. Anyway, I remeber looking on some sites that say Ghielmetti still supplies them in germany. So i went to ghielmetti site and found a matrix panel for £15?
I thought these thing were suppose to go for $200 and up? Its a 10x10 matrix board with 10 pins included. My question is that im wondering that if this will work by just soldering the wires from the patches to the matrix? Also does anyone have experiance with this? Does Ghielmetti accept US orders.

Unfortunately, for everyone who'd like to make a matrix patch mixer, these Matrix panels are more like $500-- I think. Definitely not £15, as much as I wish it was true. '$200 and up' is more of a used/ebay price, but they very rarely come up for auction.
On the bright side, there are a lot of people here and on the web who have found alternative solutiuons for the EMS-style patch panel. Just do some searching... |

| Hey Chris - it does seem to be 15euros. The downside is that it's only 45mm square (less than 2 inches). So you'll want needle nose pliers to insert those patch pins. Still - would be useful for something that didn't need frequent chnages - some kind of preset function. |

True, I guess Imb probably better off building my own using 2.5mm jacks and plugs. (Steve Thomas's Method). I probably wont need 400 pins, but I will use about a 100 so that will prob cost like $50 for a good deal from Mouser. I'll do some research on how this will work.

i had to bump this
btw hi everyone
i'm working on a 32x32 matrix using female header connectors. it's basically 32 2x32 female headers with long leads. to make soldering easy i used 2 circuit boards and cut short one side of the connector so it only gets soldered to the top board and the other sides pins go straight through to the second board. i'm going to use normal header 1x2 with a surface mount resistor soldered across the 2 pins for "patch pins". the next version will be 16x16 to make lining up the two board easier.
i have a cnc machine to etch and drill holes. also used it to cut the pins on the connectors.
this is my third prototype the first two used dip switches and were pretty crude. i realized the dip switches don't allow for the injection of signals into the synth.
i'm in the process of taking pics but here are some of my cnc machine and a few other projects
