Hello all. Just purchased a nord 2 rack. I was wondering if I am going to be able to split and layer sounds on my axiom 61 controller the same as the keyboard versions. Thanks.

welcome DrLoK

In short: no, you can't, despite your new president...

I don't have a rack version, so I use the keyboard tool in CuBase, set both Slots to the same Midi Channel and in Split mode the Slots use the complete range, so you have to use different Midi channels to get some results, which means your controller must have a Midi Split function.

To make it complete, where the rack version has its Trigger button the Keyboard version has its Keyboard Split button...

Don't be disappointed... Wink

Wout

PS and BTW and Note: layering sounds can be easily done, but read the sticky thread about Midi and Rack!

Well, I don't have an Axiom 61 either, but
the specifications of this controller wrote:
4 independent configurable keyboard zones
which means three split points IMHO Very Happy

What, that means you can use all four Slots in a four zone configuration...
And by using just one Midi cable!
Unfortunately you only have three hands, counting your nose too Wink

If M-Audio means with 'zones' the same as other synth and controller manufactories mean by it...
Normally you can set which keys are active in a zone (sometimes they can overlap each other) and you can set which Midi channel is to be used by each zone. Each zone controls another Slot. The Keyboard Shift of the NR2 can also be used.

Man, it's so cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-ol Wink

You are always able to play a layer! But read the sticky thread first!!!!
Just for the right understanding: Layers and Keyboard Split have nothing to do withg each other...

What I meant was when I seen a demo the guy had two sounds playing on one key. Is this still possible with the rack. So for example I could have slots A and B sound of choice on half of my controller and slots C and D sounds of choice on the other half of the controller? Correct me if I'm wrong on that concept. I thought that what is done on the keyboard versions.

Yes, we can Very Happy

Two Programs (Program is a sound) in Slot A and B, maybe Midi channel 1.
Also two Programs in Slot C and D, using Midi channel 2.
Then on the Axiom 61 create two Zones using Midi channel 1 and 2 repectively.

Better save such a stetting in the NR2 as a Performance.

A Layer is a sound using more then one Slot and is controlled by just one Zone, mostly the complete controller keyboard. The Hammond emulations in Performance mode are nice examples.

Again, before starting to experiment with layers, read

Well, how do I tell you this... You're sitting down? Yes?
I think that Studiologic thingy doesn't have the ability to create zones...
