Hopefully a quick question -- can anyone recommend a low noise, low power amplifier for near field studio monitors (Tannoys)? I've been limping along with a home stereo amp and it's been mostly OK, but lately the right channel drops out too often and the only way to get it back is to pan full right and turn the volume all the way up on my mixer.

The signal is getting from my MOTU to the Mackie mixer with no apparent trouble -- when the right speaker goes out, the LED meter still shows full strength in both channels. I've pulled out all the wires and replaced them, but it still takes only a few minutes for the problem to reappear. I'm quite sure the speakers are fine -- actually, I love the sound of these speakers. I tried some Alesis monitors alongside these, but I thought the Alesis pair sounded terribly abrasive in the high end.

The stereo receiver is several years old. Maybe it just needs a good cleaning, but it's not a great unit anyway and it probably colors the sound in some not so hot ways. I'd like to get a really reliable unit that will last for a long time.

Thanks in advance --
James

Low power? What is the rating of these speakers? How does the impedance curve look like? I reckon these are vented speakers so it would be interesting to see how the resonance bump at the low end matches the impedance dip.
