-- I am toying with the idea of buying a Chameleon, but I'm worrying about the need for a serial bus on my PC. I've never dealt with Windows outside of cybercafés, and if I buy a Windows machine I'd rather have a recent model (preferably one of those cheap netbooks) than something secondhand. So are there people on this list who know how to program their Chammy trough a USB port, with a suitable adapter? Or maybe through an ExpressCard?

-- How much does the Entity soundskin alias? I've had a glance at the code and the oscillators look like they should alias a lot. And the mp3s on the download page are not the kind that put the aliasing tendencies of a synth in the limelight.

Any info is welcome,

Alcofribas

Hi Alcofribas!

welcome to electro-music.com!

People have reported success with USB/RS232 adapters - there are no reasons why they shouldn't work. They can be had for less than EUR 20.

I'm not very familiar with the Entity Oscillators. I just had a look at the source, though, and they will alias - as usual noticeably so at higher frequencies and when sweeping them. It can still make lots of good sounds though. Since it's open source, you can of course modify it to your liking Smile BTW, the Australis Oscillators are quite good, not much aliasing IIRC.
