Confused about programs and samples, so I need some help! |
 |
|
[moderator] I splitt this post to a stand-alone thread, which makes it easier to get an answer. [/moderator]
I'd like some help This morning I update the Nord Wave OS to 2.02, I uploaded the new program banks and I uploaded the new samples.
However, I didn't add the samples one by one to correspond with the old sample order. So I now have the alphabetic order of the factory samples. The new program banks don't correspond to the alphabetic order of the samples. It's easy enough for me to link the new samples to my own programs because I know what I did. But it seems that I have to go through the programs one by one to reset them all to their corresponding samples.
That's fine, especially with the obvious program/sample matches. However, it's very difficult to do this with the factory programs that utilize both samples and either FM, Wave tables, or synthesizer waves. Some of those programs are pretty good and I'd like to get them back.
I've searched the CLAVIA website and the manual but I can't find any place where the original sample order is listed. If I can reset the samples accordingly then I can retrace my steps and link the programs to the samples.
Am I missing something obvious? Any suggestions from Nord Wave users?
Thanks! |

Hi Mthomashow,
why don't you backup your own programs and then load
the new "FactoryBackup v2.02" into your Wave?
This way you just have to link the new samples to your own programs.
I hope this is a solution and I didn't get you wrong...

Thanks for the suggestion and the welcome. I did backup my own programs and it's no problem for me to match them to the new samples. Actually, that's the easy part. My question concerns how to match the new factory programs to the new factory samples. If you load them alphabetically, they don't correspond and I'm not sure there is any other way to load them in bulk.
What this is forcing me to do is go through all of the programs, delete the ones I find uninteresting or of less relevance and modify the Wave to my own needs. It's time-consuming but interesting and fun. Still, there are some excellent factory hybrid programs that use samples and I'd like to be able to identify them.

About the Program confusion...
We could ask Clavia to publish a list, if this is possible, otherwise a list of the names of the designers. Maybe it could be possible to conatct them about the structure...
Just give them some rest after the Musik Messe

Hi and thank you very much for you "Welcome"
Good idea with the list-thing!
at Mthomashow:
When you load the Nord-Wave-Backup v2.02 (~150MB) via the "Restore"-Button in the new Manager, all Samples will be linked correctly to the new Programs which are included in this Backup-File. So you do not have to load the new Programs seperately! At least at my Wave everything worked fine and this way the programs and samples are not loaded in alphabetical order. Afterwards one can delete samples and programs and load new samples like those wonderful Solina-String-Sounds
Regards,

Hi,
I have had exactly the same problem. (program called piano and you get a violin)
I downloaded the FactoryBackup v2.02"
Then restore and everything is in order again.
With new samples be sure that you put he Organize option on (page 33 new manual) |

Thanks for these responses. It all makes sense to use the restore function. I'll give it a try. Your help is very much appreciated!

OK...so I downloaded (for a second time) the factory samples and programs from the Nord Wave download page, labelled osx nwb 2.02.
However, they show up on my desktop in three folders (Program, Sample, System).
When I use the restore function, the dialog box refers me to the files on my hard drive. All of the folders from the 2.02 download are "grayed out" that is, it's impossible to select them.
Is this a Mac problem? So essentially I'm reduced to the same situation as previously, the only way to load the sample is to either select all of them (without using the restore function), in which case they load alphabetically, or to use the organize function and load them one by one.
At this point, it's not impacting my ability to enjoy and use the instrument....but I'd like to solve the puzzle.
The download doesn't show up as an nwb. file....so I'm assuming that's the problem. Am I still missing something?

Bank Down the sample folder |
 |
|
You've got to use the Bank Down function of the Nord Sound Manager.
I did the same alphabetical drag and drop trick and everything got screwed up.
Choose Samples Tab.
Go To "Bank Down"
Locate the "Samp Lib" Folder inside of the "Nord Wave 2" folder.
choose "Bank 1" and download it to the wave.
They will go in in the proper order, not alpha.
Do the same thing to the 5 new program banks too. They are a major improvement to the originals.
Let me know if I'm not being clear.
Best,

Thanks for the answer.
(Not clear to me, but I'm not a Wave owner )

Yes. That does it! Thank you. Easy enough, isn't it. You're right. The factory programs sound much, much better!
