For all you DIYers that happen to be in the NYC area check out the workshop program of the 2009 Bent Festival.

Myself I will be conducting a workshop on the evening of the 18th. In this workshop you can build yourself a miniRungler.
The miniRungler is an analog box with three control knobs, a volume pot and three outputs. It produces a wave signal that is modulatable in a chaotic way by the control knobs, plus a stepped chaotic CV pattern signal. Interesting feature about the miniRungler is that it has a rhythmic aspect to it. It continues a tradition set by the Buchla Source of Uncertainty, the Wogglebug, etc. It uses off the shelve components and is the perfect kit to start DIY'ing or to expand one's range of bent instruments.
Attached is the schematic in pdf format. As you can see it has two wide range VCO's and some highly efficient intermodulation circuitry, uhh, highly efficient to create sonic havoc. It even has two body-contact bent points available on the PCB. And there are many interesting features that can be added on, like analog switches to be connected to the keyboard scanning circuitry of many serious and toy synths.
The workshop will start with a short introduction on designing analog circuitry, just enough to be able to explain the schematic. I might also talk a little bit about the more elaborate stuff that I build to make a living, like the Blippoo boxes and high-end analog modular synthesizer modules. But I promise not to talk too long, so there is plenty of time to build and test the kit. The kit takes roughly one and a half hour to build. And there will be time to talk in private as well.
This kit is only available at workshops for $25, which is basically the wholesale price of the components. It comes with Bourns mini pots (smaller than the ones on the pic) and has all the components except two 9V block batteries. A built kit can run from batteries or a dotcom or Doepfer compatible power connector. It can be built into any type of box as a stand alone device or used as a module in a modular system.
There are only ten kits available, so if you're interested be sure to book a ticket in advance through the Festival website.
Hope to see you,
/Rob
