I just wonder if there is any difference at all. I'm not happy with the G2 keyboard, and I'm seriously thinking about changing it.

I'm pretty sure that the G2 keyboard is a FATAR TP-9S model, which supposedly exist also in semi-weighted variant, but neither Clavia or Fatar have confirmed this to me (which is sad). Maybe the G2X uses the semi-weighted variant? It that was the case, I may buy a G2X keyboard replacement and put the keys and the springs into my G2. That's what keeps it from being perfect to me.

What I'm asking is, if someone has played both keyboards and can give some feedback about them.

Thanks in advance!

It does, but I don't know if the keys will fit...

I used to own two expanded G2s for a while. When the G2X hit the market, I sold them and bought two G2Xs, as they were what I had always wanted.

The keyboards are definetely not the same. The G2 keyboard definetely has a lighter, I'd dare say "cheaper", feel to it. The G2X keyboard however is one of the best I've ever played. It's the same one as in the Alesis Andromeda (and in the Moog Voyager IIRC). It is very durable and sturdy. I've played the shit out of my G2Xs for the last few years, and the keyboard action is still perfect. There's not much hardware stuff around anymore on that level of build quality.

The one thing which is puzzling me is the TP-9S, which is almost the same as the one which is in the G2X, doesn't come in 61 size and the G2X is... Shocked

Thank you for the answers.

It's good to know that the G2X really has a better keyboard. Someone told me once that the keyboards were the same, but I didn't believe it. Clavia advertised the G2X with semi-weighted keys, and they shouldn't lie, should they?. (they also said RAM was 24 bit, ahem! so they DO lie sometimes...).

So, the question is if the G2X keys and springs would fit into the G2 keyboard chassis. The first thing to check is the size of the keys.

Please Tim, could you measure how long are 3 octaves of one or your G2X keyboards? My G2 measures 51,8 cm from the first key to the last. As a comparison, 3 octaves of my Motif XS6 keys 48,1 cm.

Tim is spot on about the quality of the G2x keyboard.

Please keep me posted Albert as to how this works out. I love my G2, but dislike the action. If there's a way to change it, that'd be awesome.

The G2x keys are semi weighted, giving them a firmer feel than the G2, but not as firm as a fully weighted action ie Motif ES8, etc.

Good luck!

Hi

I measured the size of the last 3 octaves (and the last key) of my G2X and I got 51.6 or 51.7 cm and hence I think they must have the same size.

Hope this helps.
Best regards

Thank you very much paugui, that's very good news. Perhaps there is hope to improve the G2 keyboard. Smile

I also think it might be relevant to mention that when you pressure the keys harder on the G2X, you can notice that the keys get higher right at the end, when they meet the keyboard chassis.
I don't know if that happens with the G2 too, but since that doesn't happen in my other keyboards I thought it could be relevant.

Best regards and good luck on improving your G2,

Paugui

This also happens in my G2. They keyboard models seem not to be much different.

I noticed real differences between my old G2 keyboard and brand new ones.... I wonder if it is exactly the same model. Maybe this can be changed... it's certainly not so expensive.

I noticed the same thing... I saw a G2 in a store that had the newer textured finish on it too... never saw one like that before. Anyway, I don't know if it felt better because of a design change, or because it was simply newer and less broken in.

It looked great though... matched my Nord Stage Compact perfectly!! Smile

I love the texture of the new Nords. Unfortunately my unit is older, and the keyboard sucks, absolutely. I have had no luck asking Clavia about what model the G2 keyboard is, so I don't know what to do. I really would like to replace it with a better one.

I'm even thinking about selling my G2, buying a second hand G2 engine and a Virus TI polar or indigo as a controller. :/
