Just bought a Pulse

and I'm happy, happy, happy.

It's a regular (not plus) version. All-black knobs. I know they appear frequently on ebay, but here in Mexico, I only saw one on the classifieds a few years ago, and the one I just bought. Should be here sometime next week.

Any opinions on these? I've read a lot about them and most of it is praising. My other Waldorfs are an XT and the plugin pack (Attack, D-Pole, PPG), which I love, but I'm sure the Pulse, being analog and all, will have a distinct character.

I'm particularly interested in using it for live stuff along my Nord G2 and Machinedrum (probably sequencing the Pulse with the G2).

A superb little synth. I've had mine since new.

The user interface is a pain at times because you have to select the row of parameters you wish to modify and I find myself constantly pressing the row button only to press once too often and have to start again Wink

However great sound are available and the random patch function can give interesting results.

a good choice.

Just got it today and I'm loving it. Easier to edit than I thought, although I would have preferred incremental encoders rather than potentiometers, but it's not such a big deal.

Doesn't sound too analog... it's just too damn precise.. but I'll try adding some slight pitch modulation with a random LFO and see what happens. Works with my Nord Lead 3.

The next step will be controlling it with the Nord G2 and do some live improvisations.

editing can be done with several software,
this one is great and free : http://www.stretta.com/~matthew/resources/pulse_editor/index.html

there is also a vsti version from rekon audio wich allows you to automate the parameters from a sequencer.

reading the manual is highly recomended because there are some tricks that you cant think of by just looking at the frontplate.
my favorite is that lfo 1 can be its own source for modulation.

if you think that the pulse sounds too distorted on every patch, set the osc volumes under 30 each, sounds much to low but in this case thats where the distortion sets in.

That editor seems to be mac only, and I'm under PC Sad

Anyway, I'm perfectly ok editing the Pulse from the front panel. It's not hard or tedious at all. Only a bit more time consuming than, say, a Nord Lead, but much better than my old ESQ-1 and Matrix 6R (even with the software editor!).
