Stupid Pot Question

So I am making a MFOS Sample and hold module, and I am pretty new to this stuff. I have mounted pots on surfaces before, but I just got a bunch of Alpha pots and they have this protruding pieces of metal that stick out and prevent me from mounting them on the panel straight. How are you supposed to mount them?

Take a pair of pliers, grab a hold of 'em and just break them off. Orrrr, you could drill some smaller holes on your panel and let them extend into them but that's really more work than its worth.

They're really easy to remove with the pliers technique.

my guess is when you drill a hole for it to go into it prevents the whole pot from turning with the knob
