Yep, holidays are over...
Clavia still produces the updates for V1.06. They can be ordered by your local shop > distributor > Clavia and they will put their kobold to work. I don't think it will be a quick production/shipping matter, because you have to wait some time until there is more to do/ship.
Maybe it would be to start a thread here and order all at the same time
(I know the procedure from somewhere )
Anyway, producing one yourself is also your own responsibility! Why risk your synth where one can also order with warranty? Clavia says: "Simple don't do it!"

so i have to pay a repair shop to put one in, and also wait until they eventually get around to burning some?
seeing as how i have been sitting on this thing for months anyways, i'm not really too excited about waiting who knows how much longer...
the distributor on my end was very little help at all, and the shop that was listed locally is notorious for being slow/pricey and somewhat difficult to deal with anyway. i dunno if i want to deal with them sitting on it for who knows how long and maybe not even being able to fix it in the first place.
if there is a way i can order the chips myself, i would be happy to do so. warranty or not, it's not like i am going to be sending this thing to sweden any time soon |

Don't know how this ends, but I'm desperate seeking a new or the latest OS on EPROM for my Lead 1.
Just need the chip. I can replace it by myself ...

Clavia still delivers these e-proms.
Just check your local dealer and order one.
If he says it's not possible, contact the distributor.
Still a no-no, e-mail Clavia at info@clavia.se
You can write them I told you this procedure

still no resolution... emailed clavia again after their vacation, received no response. i'm really regretting buying this thing. i refuse to pay a repair shop 300 bucks to drop a chip in, which is what they quoted me, and they put off supplying the chip onto clavia, who doesn't sound like they have a burning desire to supply these things on any reasonable timeline.
whatever, i think i just need to sell it off broken and hope someone can use it for parts.
oli, let me know if anything materializes, i would still like to work something out. |

Is there any difference (OS-chips) between the Nord-Lead 1 keys and the Nord Lead 1 rack version ? _________________ Nord Lead 1, Korg X3-N5-Micro-Wavestation-X50-01W/R, Roland JV80-MC808, Kurzweil K2000-PCX3, Kawai K4, Oberheim OB12, CMU UF5 (Master) |

Not Really...
During booting the OS will be searching the PitchStick and ModWheel. If these aren't found the synth will set itself to Rack: [rA] in the screen.

hey guys, i just talked to Kostas @ the distro this morning, my new chip is on its way to me right now! should be here next week.
is there anything else i should replace while i'm in there? internal lithium battery, anything like that? i will probably clen the switches and stuff while i have it open, but i didnt know if there are any other things that typically need to be done on a decade-old leadrack. |

Indeed clean the thing using a vacuum cleaner. To a keyboard version I should do it anyway.

well guys, the EPROM arrived, i got it installed and it looks good, until you try to play it. it's basically doing all the same weird stuff that it always has.
so here is my next question... is there a way to do a complete reset? as in, reset all the midi routing/preset sounds/programs/etc., so i at least know if the guy who owned this before me did some stupid thing for his sequencer or something?
also, is there an internal battery that could be screwing things up by going bad?
the hunt/repair continues. |

You have a Rack, the first edition, a NordRack(1), right?
You are using a Midi controller or a special keyboard, right, uh?
The trouble is a Program which is 'sticky' in most sounds, right?
And troubles with Program Change, I believe?
(Wout, please, calm down!)
And a disfunctional Filter?
(I’m calm now…)
I think it’s not the synth, but your Midi set up.
We are looking at Program mode, Performance mode is another story which will be dealt with later...
First set your Global Midi to channel 16 using [Shift + 2x MidiCh (=Unison)] > [G.**] and using up and down to [G.16] It doesn’t hurt, so it’s worth the try… This could be the reason Program Change send from an external source doesn’t work.
Also check your Midi Cannels: which Slot is using what.
Try to locate which Slot is the bad one: press all Slot buttons at once and all are lit, do this again and only one will lit (the last one pressed) Press Slot A and play the synth. Turn the Gain (the most right upper knob) down. Is the sound away? No, press Slot B only and tweak the Gain again? No, continuing story to Slot C and D. If you find the one go to [Shift + MidiCh] press the Slot button and scroll using up and down to [oFF]. Press Shift again. Does this help?
If needed there is also the ‘left most active Slot’ thing, but try the above mentioned things first…
Still wondering about that Filter. All sounds have no Filter?

hahha, well there is no reason to get mad now!
so, i did double check all the midi routing, and the multiple slot deal, and all that was fine. i decided to open up the unit again, and look a little closer.
sure enough, there was a resistor in there that looked a little funny coming off the power supply. i went ahead and replaced it, and also cleaned out a little bit of corrosion that had built up on one of the ribbon connections that feeds the pots back to the circuit board. after i did all that, i did a "master reset" that i found on this forum to get it back to stock factory settings, redid all the midi connections again, and TA-DA! it seems to function properly. i need to spend some serious time with the manual to full understand the slot/performance stuff, it seems like the expansion card really opens up new territory.
well, it seems like i am on the road. i am gonna play with it for a few weeks and figure out some things, but i will be back to post clips and more as i get comfortable with it! thanks all! |
