Looks great, to my eyes at least. Having been resurrected as a keyboard hitter (out of respect to those with keybord skills I won't call myself a keyboard player...) since my old band (30 years back) have started reconvening at odd intervals, I'll have to look into MainStage, as my Yamaha polka board just doesn't make pleasing organ sounds. _________________ Where there are too many policemen, there is no liberty. Interesting. G4, G5 and Tiger support have all been dropped. |

Cool. I ordered the upgrade. Seems like I will get it early next week. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Interesting... I guess I am out until I get an intel box.

Must admit I'm not sure If I will upgrade, £159 seems a bit steep when the full version is £399. |

Well, that might be but it isn´t much money anyway.
Just for the record: I´m not impressed by the quality of info on the Logic 9 release. This is way too thin and it´s kinda sad really. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

I notice a strong influence from Ableton Live - the live looper, the elastic audio features, the UI, etc.
I also notice a bit of Native Instruments/Amplitube influence, particularly the support for the new foot-controlled unit by Apogee (the Gio), which is a lot like the pedal for Guitar Rig.
I was thinking I'd eventually get Ableton Live for solo shows, but as an existing Logic Studio owner, it's a lot cheaper to get Logic 9. Still, I'll wait for the first round of bugs to get sorted. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud

Yes, I am sure there are no changes to the environment. I am very glad to see that workflow improvements and new contextual menus are listed in the improvements. I doubt any of this will touch the environment.
The lack of fixes to the environment is the main problem with the program. The environment is not conceptually a problem, even though many say it is, the problem is the implementation has exceptionally poor workflow and there are many obvious bugs that have been in there since it was first released on the Atari, over 10 years ago. For example, deleting a wire still doesn't redraw it as erased. This leads to thinking the keystroke was lost and pressing delete a second time, which then unexpectedly deletes the thing that the focus shifted to. This happens all the time when editing, is always unexpected, and would be a trivial fix. There is also the poor wire routing algorithm used, which is very naive by just drawing many unrelated wires on top of each other for no good reason. Many other programs have solved the problem of laying out wires. This code has never been touched in Logic. Then simple things like renaming objects is made difficult. There is a special renaming tool? Why not be like most everything else in the world and permit one to click on a label, press enter to get edit focus, and then type? Why a special tool for naming? Then you have the inconsistent algorithms about what happens when you cut or copy and paste an object, the terrible deep and unbalanced layout of objects in the New object menu, and the unfortunate fact that Logic does not track MIDI port changes like all Apple MIDI software is required to!
Ghastly.
Now in this update, the beat slicing and auto-extraction looks very nice, the guitar rig clone looks useful and fun, and MainStage's looper device is a great addition that really makes it an awesome live performance tool. I'll wait a couple years for the features to settle down though before upgrading, or perhaps wait for version 10.
Many music programs have long term fundamental bugs that are never fixed. Another example is the stuck and lost note problems that affect several plugins by Native Instruments, and their perpetually broken installers.
I can understand some obscure bug that no one noticed, or that only applies to strange hardware configurations. But very obvious problems that affect programs immediately and are not fixed despite widespread complaints and reports indicate to me that a software company does not have any real musicians working on their staff. A real musician would fix the damn problem already. |

Well heres the first shock for your money.
No proper printed manuals and no manuals in PDF format either.
All you get is a nasty html help system and a couple of small getting started CD size booklets. |

Yes, the quality of the documentation has historically been much better than most of the competition and a good argument for sticking with Logic as the it would seem that Apple have been taking the users seriously. This is indeed a mindless move. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

From what I have heard it is, I still have to wait "2 hours and 30 minutes" to find out! |

It isn't going down well on the Logic forums thats for sure!
The general consensus seems to be to leave feedback here http://www.apple.com/feedback/logicpro.html saying how disappointed you are that there is no printed docs or pdf. |

I remember the days of C-Lab Notator on the Atari. For each upgrade they sent the pages (with the new features) to substitute inside the manual to keep it updated (and if I recall correctly the new pages had a note saying that they belonged to a certain upgrade). That's the kind of support I would expect from a "professional" application like Logic Pro. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Well its installed.
The help system is the awful apple one and it is very slow for instance clicking on one of the main links, say the effect link gives me about 20 seconds of the beach-ball before the page is loaded! Total disaster.
No proper manuals and a shit help system.
Even worse after my install version 8 seems to have been overwritten! |
