I haven`t got Logic 9 yet, but I doubt that this is true.
Here is a link to an introduction called "Exploring Logic Pro 9":
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Exploring_Logic_Pro_9.pdf
And this is a quote from p.165 in the introductory-pdf:
"Exploring Logic Pro Help
Logic Pro Help provides in-depth descriptions and instructions about the features and controls (the tasks you can perform) with Logic Pro.
Try This
Open the Logic Pro User Manual:
In Logic Pro, choose Help > Logic Pro Help, then click Logic Pro 9: User Manual.
Open the Logic Studio Instruments manual:
In Logic Pro, choose Help > Logic Pro Help, then click Logic Studio: Instruments.
Open the Logic Studio Effects manual:
In Logic Pro, choose Help > Logic Pro Help, then click Logic Studio: Effects."
--------------
So, it looks like the big manuals are buried in the Help Menu... |

Sorry,
It looks like the "manuals" I referred to above are short and crappy web pages - not the real thing.
Give us the 1000+ pages in pdf! |

Hooray! This campsite has internet! (and I can't sleep! )
Come on lets face it, who read the manual anyway? Most kids who are using Logic these days are being taught the basics either at school or at college- so there is no need for 1000 page pdf's any more. And in any Applestore you can get either free advice or pay for advanced advice. I think Apple are finding that 1to1 training is very popular (I always prefer someone to show me rather than reading dry and boring manuals! )
Too bad that I never seem to have the time these days to use or play with Logic _________________ ACHTUNG!

That is exactly the point! The online help system for Logic 9 is an embarassing Reader´s Digest version for those who won´t read the manuals anyway. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Thanks, electro80.
I think Peter Kirn over at Create Digital Music will ask Apple about the missing manual later this week. |

FYI, this is from an exchange between Peter Kirn and me today at createdigitalmusic.com:
"Peter Kirn
Oh, I see — they’ve just gone Web/HTML only. I’ll see if they include a local copy; would be crazy if they didn’t. In some ways, that’s easier to deal with than a PDF, and I certainly won’t miss a bunch of heavy, paper manuals.

Peter, I`m afraid the online manual is, to quote a guy at the electro-music forum, “a Reader´s Digest version for those who won´t read the manuals anyway”.
I think the 1000 pages`manual is gone. I guess it was a question of budget and time, and they decided that they couldn`t afford the work. However, I`m sure the many users who actually read the excellent manuals (me included), will be outraged. With such a complex application, a good manual is indispensable. Please tell them!

Yeah, indeed, it looks like the actual *copy* from the original manual has been nuked. Given that there are only subtle changes from Logic 8 to the vast majority of functionality, that’s really surreal. So this will be high on my (ahem, increasingly lengthy) set of questions.

I don´t think that is a smart move at all. Right now Peter Kirn should try to salvage the BeatKangz disaster. That being said, I hope they paid him some serious money for that grand marketing job he did there.. but.. as their campaign is viral, an important part of the whole scam is to not pay a dime.
When that BeatKangz cleanup job is done then I think he is ready for a fistfight with Steve Jobs.

Is it just me? When I pay a few hundred dollars for a very complex program the expectation of a hardcopy manual is there.
I found the Logic 8 manuals very valuable when learning the software. Unfortunately, it seems like manufacturers, software developers included are cheeping out. I would imagine the CEO's in a meeting said "hey we could save money by not giving a hardcopy manual..." most likely followed by some idea of selling us a tutorial.
Just another reason I won't be upgrading. _________________ ________________________________
