Anyone looking for Mica Silvered Capacitors replacement (for the VCO) could use
Polystyrene Film Capacitors.
Styrene 50v .005uf, Radial, mouser catalogue no: 23PW250
mouser also have data sheets to download. www.mouser.com

If you want to buy with paypal,
you could buy:
Polystyrene Film Capacitors from www.rush-on-line.co.uk.
Order instead: 5nF, 63v, radial (their ref: SC-2522)

if this information is incorrect please post corrections here.

I've been struggling to find caps for my 3 MFOS VCOS. Can anyone advise me on the suitability of polypropylene caps to replace the silver mica at C6? Also how much of a problem would it be to replace the listed .005uF with 4n7?
I'm looking at these http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Capacitors/Polypropylene/Polypropylene-capacitors-Wima/62505 from rapid. They're cheap & available. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Many thanks
Ian

I already had it confirmed that you could use Polystyrene captacitors instead of Silvered Capacitor at C6. The one I have have very long legs
so you should be able to fit them on the PCB. I can get you 5000pF at 50V
that the same as using .005uF.

Thanks IF - & thanks for the link to Rush which I hadn't seen before.
Still interested to know whether 4n7 polypropylene will do the job though.
Whilst I'm building MFOS modules I'm reading the All New Electronics Self Teaching Guide so I'm hopeful that I'll understand what the different types of caps do at some point!
Cheers
Ian
