I just finished mixing on my debut album...which is dark, lush synth...but with no traditional instruments. We recorded live sex (thanks to many wonderful participants) and processed it into music. It ranges from new wave to ambient sound scape, with my vocals over the music bed.
I just wanted to intoduce myself and give you all the url where you can listen to samples.

thanks.

I have a hard time comparing it to anything, to be honest.

I imagine the opposite really. Some artists here did a live sex show with a DJ remixing cavity sounds in real time. The whole performance pretty much folded early on. Nothing really worked and the sex was supposedly not that fun either.

of course...certainly a most interesting learning experience, in more ways than 1. the mics were on, under, near and even IN whatever we thouhgt would make a good "instrument."

Yes, this is pretty much in the same ballpark as seeing reruns of "The Towering Inferno".

what specifically was so awful about it? Were the cavity sounds even interesting, or was it just a failed experiment?

The DJ probably killed it all first, then the gear started failing. I guess it must have looked better on the drawing board.

The music was far from interesting and the DJ was panicking and trying to loop whatever and putting a beat to it.. and the music performance pretty much fell apart early on.

I'm sure the pope, and any other good catholic, would be happy to have a extensive and engaging discussion about my album.
I've already had the term freak used by a large number of people - one of whom is an established muscian who writes about his masculinity/mother issues, surprise surprise. It makes me smile. :)

I recently got some of those microphones you put in your ears. I haven't done too much with them yet, but some simple tests have proven to be astonishing, especially when played back through headphones. It's like really being there. These might be useful in this kind of recording session.
