One hour preferable though 30 minutes is fine -- whatever fits into the schedule.
I am working on smoother transitions from one section to the next and some additional looping techniques and this set will be an opportunity to try some new things. _________________ -- Kevin

Hrast, great stuff yesterday. I was only able to tune in for an odd moment here and there, but I loved what I heard. |

Setup for the day |
|
|
I recall a tradition of posting the gear etc. for these things, which Kevin has posted. My speaking intro will be short and sweet so as not to cut into my 30- minutes, so here goes:
12 Hohner blues harmonicas, one for each equally tempered key, which I've recorded into Live as my "keyboard" for background synth. This idea came from Kevin's idea at Pocono Skies of having the Sunday Ensemble start a piece on random notes, 1 note per performer, and converge an interval at a time onto a G major chord (I had D). Blues harp reeds have lots of overtones, not all of them harmonic! (isn't it ironic?), so in the aggregate they make a nice gravelly mix for FX processing.
The idea of doing blues generally came from some jamming that Mel Morley and I did at the Pocono Skies cast house, wherein he tracked my acoustic blues pieces on banjo with his excellent synth work. Emergent Blues because they emerge from that chromatic chaos of those 12 buzzing harps, initially on processed Godin guitar synth/Roland GR33, and then processed Bart Reiter open back acoustic banjo with a Whyte Ladie tone ring (think pointillism, rapid attack and decay, a feature that is *not* universal to all 5-string banjos), along with processed vocals. I am missing a few teeth and can get a nice S whistle on certain lyrics, a la Gob Bluth for you Arrested Development fans of that season. More overtones to process.
Practicing regularly now. Well, not this week, just arrived at http://www.icmc2010.org/ , which kicks off its Stony Brook portion tomorrow.
EDIT: The FX are all Live signal processor modules. I forget to mention that Scrabble-to-MIDI also makes an appearance on one MIDI channel as percussion during the banjo piece _________________ When the stream is deep

Thanks! It's a beautiful campus, lots and lots of trees, even a little forest near the dorms where I am staying.
Tomorrow the musical fun begins. _________________ When the stream is deep

This is a nice idea! I know I like to know about a person's performance--gear, performance techniques, etc.
