Android and MIDI

I'm thinking it's almost time to get a tablet. I figure I could put all of my fakebooks and various charts on the thing and leave my heavy binders at home, but I'm also hoping to get something to fool with musically.

I really don't want to buy an iPad, I want something a bit more open. A friend just picked up a Color Nook at Barnes and Noble and has it booting up as an Android device from the memory card. Very cool. Might be too small to use as a virtual fake book 'though.

What I'm wondering is, can a MIDI interface be hooked to any of the Android devices? Could I play my synths from Android or play Android synths from the keyboard synths?

I've ha a look at a dock for the iPad that provides this functionality, but has anyone heard of anything like this for Android?
