Hard Case for NM1 rack |
 |
|
Have any of you bought a hard case for the NM1 rack version?
I wouldn't expect that there ane any cases designed specifically for it, but there may be some models that are a close fit.
Any referrals? |

I saw some swedish and norwegian clavia dealers had various flightcases for the various Nord Modular 1 a year ago or so..
These were pretty much standard models .. not custommade. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

I´m still planning to build mine into a little wooden suitcase. The rack may be great for playing live but it sucks for traveling. There´s way too much empty space, the jogdial sticks out, aparently defying the world to give it a proper beating and it can´t be stacked on. Luckily all of the components inside are seperate and can be rearanged but that means soldering up extentions for all of the plugs which i´ve been postponing for months now.
I´m seriously torn about the G2. The engine is nice for the studio and suitable for traveling but all wrong for the stage due to having no interface. The keyboard version is way too large and cumbersome to travel with. Worse yet; the keyboard version has a keyboard nailed to it and a amazingly bad one at that. That´s nice if you like realy light keyboards and either play local weddings or get to travel with a container truck for your gear managed by roadies but for everybody else it sucks. It means traveling with a large, hard, roling suitcase and packing everything in a way determind by the G2. The only real option apears to be getting a G2 keyboard, taking it out of it´s case, getting the keyboard off and building the motherboard and the knobs a new case. That´s quite a bit of work to make it suitable for what it´s supposed to be good at. It is utterly beyond me why Clavia can´t get this right for the modulars after doing such a good job with the lead series.
While I´m ranting and raving anyway; why on earth does Clavia insist on putting keyboards on modulars? Modulars shouldn´t have keyboards, at least not conventional ones. Serge demonstrated how it´s done, Buchla made it quite clear, yet Clavia insists that there should be twelve tones to the octave, damn you if you think different. Admittedly of the old ones Arp and Moog had keyboards but "accidentally" those are also very boring and conservative systems compared to Serge and Buchla. Why not a rack mountable tabletop model with a ribon instead of a keyboard so people can figure out how they want to use it themselves?
Also, what I still don´t understand is why the G2X doesn´t have a proper keyboard. Nobody in his right mind is going to travel with is so weight doesn´t matter; It should have heavy keys if it´s going to have any. The benchmark for keys is the piano, synth sounds tend to be bigger and heavier then piano sound so it follows that synths that have keys should have *heavier* keys then the piano, not lighter ones and certainly no cheap plasticy ones. 8dsp modular synths should have particularly heavy keys.
Erm, yeah. I think that´s all for now.

My G2 in it's hard case is pretty easy to travel with.
It even fits within the dimensions for carry-on for some airlines.
It would be cool to see a version with the control surface but no keyboard,
but I like having the keyboard. The flexible midi features allow me to do a lot with it, e.g. controlling other devices. I don't believe it is a mistake by Clavia to include the keyboard, just good marketing. |

BTW for my NM1 I found a metal tool box at home depot that it fits in nicely.
Sorry no picture, since it is in storage now. |

I agree with Kassen's rant about the keyboards. I have a G2 keyboard. I'm planning on upgrading to the G2X because when I play at gigs I like a bigger keyboard. Now I have to lug a Roland A-37 with the G2. The A-37 has better keyboard action than the G2X so blech - compromise.
A G2 with control surface but no keyboard would be ideal - for me.
Kassen, before you get out the band saw and start cutting up the G2 keyboard, notice that the control surface is wider than a standard rack!
Still, after all is said, I've fallen in love with the pitch stick! It more than makes up for the lightweight keys. _________________ --Howard

He he he, my band saw can´t handle metal, I was thinking about simply disconecting the multi cable I beleive the keybard has but I think I´ll think some more because a good MIDI controler and a engine could do the trick too, I just realy like those led displays.
I do have this little wooden suitcase that will fit the G1´s parts perfectly. I also plan to have the ins and outs on the front with simple male-female extentions (so everything could go back together if needed for some reason). It´ll be like a modern synthi! _________________ Kassen |
