Hi all,

I don't know why I didn't think of this before -

In general, the kind of distortion that often sounds pleasing is distortion of the lower harmonics of a sound, like the fundamental, the 2nd and maybe the third harmonic. Tube circuits tend to distort this way.

Distortion of higher harmonics tends to look and sound more like hard clipping and sounds harsh, like some types of transistor circuit clipping or digital clipping.

So... in the attached patch, I used a couple of band pass filters that track the oscs to isolate the fundamental & 3rd harmonics, and then overdrive distortion is applied only to this portion of the signal. The overdriven fundamental & 3rd are mixed back in with the clean signal. Use the 4-1 switch module to compare.

I added some trim circuits to modify how the overdrive behaves, determined by the main filter sweep & the keyboard. With the right tweaking, this idea sounds huge on bass notes & gives a really thick full sound in the higher registers too. Enjoy!

(Note Blue Hell : a working version of the patch is attache a few posts below)

Hi Dave,

The file is corrupt and I can't restore it.
Could you please send it in a ZipFile?

Wout

This happened to me earlier when I sent NM1 patches to the forum (the Chroma templates). For some reason, the patch text file is 'double-spaced', meaning there is a blank line between each line of text. This doesn't happen when I send NM1 patches to places other than the forum so I'm thinking it may be some setting at your end? BTW, sorry, I don't have any way to send .zip files from here.

I've tried to fix the patch, please let me know when it does not work.

Not only the double spacing was a problem but aditionally the line feeds were changed into Unix format - the NM does not like that. I changed 'm into DOS format.

I've removed the double post, the system seems a bit slow - when you simply abort the waiting and reload the page you'll see the message already arrived, it's just the redirection back to the page that is slow.

Jan.
