Nord Modular G2x for sale |
 |
|
Bought brand new a few weeks ago. It is in perfect (new) condition. Includes all manuals, software CD, microphone, original box, and of course the G2x.
We just didn't connect.
Hoping to get $2200, I paid much more for it. _________________ Sayer - Home Page |

Looks like the G2x is sold! _________________ Sayer - Home Page |

You already sold it? Like.. here?.. not ebay or something?
You have actually tested the Andromeda? You know what you are getting into _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

There is a lot of truth to that.... An Andromeda popped up for sale locally, so I went and had a proper introduction to it and demo. This really helped me make the decision.
A few of my freinds bought G2s and were thrilled with them, so I bought the G2x unheard. I had just sold a bunch of my VA synths and wanted something new. Turns out what I really wanted (although I didn't know it at the time) was something with a big analog sound. _________________ Sayer - Home Page |

I like the Andromeda too, but I know some who really hates it. They like the sounds but I reckon the interface is too complex.
Anyway, The Andromeda is a classic! _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

There seems to be a lot of Andromeda - G2x (one way or another) swapping going around.
I guess they are kind of the top-of-the-line synths today.
But I think the G2x kicks the Andromeda in the bucket on all fronts
(Indeed a too complex interface, but a really beautifull sound though) |

I think Paul Nagle may have summed it up well when he said that "Alesis over-engineered the hell out of the Andromeda" (or something close to that).
I had a short go with an Andromeda at a local shop when it was first released and felt the same. Their was no one there to assist me and after a few minutes I gave up on trying to figure out how to work the damn thing.
So, when I went to see the local Andromeda for sale I had reservations. I asked the seller to give me an overview of the synth explaining that I was unsure of the interface and complexity. The first thing that struck me was the sound. It was being played through monitors very similar to my own and I was captivated by the wonderful sound. I'm used to VAs and this sounded much fuller and rich.
The seller gave me a thorough walk through of the Andro. Starting with the display and how it works with the soft buttons and then moving on to the oscillators and going through all of the parameters for them. He was selling because of financial issues and it was obvious he really would miss it. Anyway, this overview (which was at least an hour long) really helped give me an understanding of the A6 structure, how the interface worked, and the potential hidden within. It would have taken me weeks to figure all of that out on my own.
By the end of the demo I felt the Andro was what I was looking for. I've been turned off to real analogs in the past because I've been raised on VAs and wanted things like midi (with syncable arps, lfos, etc), patch storage, a broader sound pallet, and few other modern conveniences. This is provided by the Andro along with a really great sound that the VAs cannot compete with. It will take a long time to master because it is a very deep synth and maybe this turns people off to it.
Another thing that some people may not like about the A6 is that if the oscillator levels are set too high it will sound like a VA. Many of the factory patches are set this way. A few tweaks and they really come to life. There is a very good tips and tricks website that has hundreds of "secrets" exposed on the A6 mailing list over the years. It contains a lot of sound programming tips that help you get the most from the Andro.
Well.... that's how I ended up where I am today! _________________ Sayer - Home Page |

Yes, and we host an A6 forum set up by the A6 mailing list people to store patches. Maybe that forum will start to get more active. _________________ --Howard
