5th International Conference on the Theory of Music
"Principles of Musical Composition. The Creative Process"

The purpose of the conference is to give new impulses to the
development of musicological thought, which could do service to
compositional practice and teaching process. The four preceding
conferences took place in Vilnius (Principles of Musical Composition.
Theory and Practice 1999; Principles of Musical Composition. Between Ethno
and Techno 2001; Principles of Musical Composition. Continuity and
Innovation in Contemporary Music 2002; Principles of Musical Composition.
Aspects of Historical Spread 2004).
Main theme: Principles of Musical Composition. The Creative Process
Sub themes:
1. Perception of creative process
2. Evolution of the outlooks on creative process
3. Psychology of creation
4. Specifics of the composer's creative process
5. Various aspects, types and typology of the composer's creative process
6. Character and composition (heritage) of creative process
Paper proposals may be submitted electronically or in paper format
(pdf). Electronic submissions are preferred. The abstract must not exceed
300 words. The duration of papers will be limited to 20 minutes, leaving
10 minutes for questions and discussions. Please indicate whether your
proposal belongs to one or more of the conference theme groups.

The deadline for proposal submissions is May 15, 2005. The proposals
will be reviewed by members of the organizing committee and all applicants
will be notified of the outcome in the middle of June 2005.
The main language of the conference is English.
The material of the conference - papers, summaries, discussions will
be published, taking into consideration the requirements set for
prestigious scientific publications.
We inform you that the 15th International Contemporary Music festival
"Gaida" (find more details in www.mic.lt) will be held in October 10-25,
2005. The participants of the conference will have the possibility to go
to the concerts free of charge.
The organizers will also provide the accommodation for the conference
participants.
