Thus I'd rather not risk having wasted the time, if the subject had previously been rehashed ad infinitum.

It gets brought up from time to time but I think good PSU design, especially linear PSU design as applied to modular or analogue synthesizer applications can definitely use more discussion. It's pretty easy to build a small 7xyy based 1A dual polarity supply but there are a raft of issues which are scattered in many threads concerning

- ripple filtering
- inrush current limiting
- short circuit protection
- heatsinking effectively (especially when tucked in the back of a cabinet with no hope of a fan)
- power distribution (what do we mean by "star" distribution anyway)

If you're up to investing in the effort you might be surprised by the community. It's a bit unfortunate that you chose the absolutely most volatile of topics to introduce yourself with.

I am looking forward to checking this out. I have an extremely limited knowledge of electronics, but have built a few circuits that I have found here, and they do make noise, but they are still running on battery power.

While waiting for this to begin, if any of you know of some good online articles about the basics of power supply construction, could you post a link?

Thank you

Dougster started a thread here

Have they ever been seen together in the same room?

Is there a secret SDIY person cloning facility somewhere, perhaps on Kamino?

Shocked I believe you're right! It's a consipracy!

now who is the clone,. or maybe they both are,. but then where is the original ?!
Could it be they are the only survivors of some scientific experiment gone horribly
wrong ? (or right depending how you look at it). are there more ?,.

Frank, if you write out some text about this, could you consider including some ideas and ideals for adding on-off switches and LEDs to show power on.

Many of us whip up power supplies using power-one or condor linear regulated ones that cheaply available on ebay. I know a lot of folks have concerns when doing the inlet/fuse and inlet/fuse/switch housing.

Also, there is often a lot of uncertainty regarding remote sensing. It'd be great to hear your thoughts (or other's) on this as well.
