A Thread for Discussing the Harder to find Components. Subject description: Where the current values of the components are listed in the first post. |
 |
|
I'll start the thread with some of the harder to find components and what I think they're currently worth. I have no idea what new BA662A's or SAD1024's are worth as is shown below by the ?????. If someone has any of these components listed in this thread they should not sell them here, but in another so it doesn't become cluttered.
Component Name Package Approx. Cost in USD A common application of the device in Electronic Music and / or a brief description of the component
BA6110S SIP09 $2-$5 -- x0xb0x TB303 Clone used as Substitute for BA662A in x0xb0x. -- Single - OTA with Output Buffer/ VCO's, VCF's & VCA's.
BA622A or BA662B SIP09 $????? -- Original TB303 and x0xb0x TB303 Clone 'A' is Better than 'B'. -- Single - OTA with Output Buffer, used by Roland.
CA3080E DIP08 $2-$5 -- Roland SH1 & System 700 VCF, Moog Taurus & MG1 VCA, 9090 Clap. -- Single - OTA with NO Output Buffer / VCO's, VCF's & VCA's.
CA3280E DIP08 $12 -- VCO's, VCF's & VCA's. -- Dual 'Precision' un-buffered OTA
CEM3320 DIP18 $50-$55 -- Sci Pro 1 -- Curtis Electromusic VCF
CEM3340 DIP16 $50-$65 -- Roland MC202/SH101; Sci Pro 1 -- Curtis Electromusic VCO
LM3096N DIP16 $12 -- Transistor Array / 3NPN + 2PNP
LM394N DIP08 $8 -- XR2206 VCO and YuSynth VCO as Exponential Converter. -- Dual NPN / Supermatched Pair
SAD1024 DIP16 $????? -- Dual BBD
SSM2210 DIP08 $10 -- MFOS Ultimate VCO's -- Dual NPN / Supermatched Pair
SSM2220 DIP08 $10 -- Dual PNP / Supermatched Pair

Seems very subjective... I'm not sure how you're coming up with prices. Anyone can just come up with prices of what they THINK stuff should sell for.
I sell CEM3340s for $74 all the time on ebay and there's someone else there who has sold them for $89.
I have sold lots of CEM3320s for $54, someone else on ebay has been selling them for $59.
I also sell quite a few BA662As at $44, someone else on ebay has them for $76. _________________ http://www.synthparts.com |

This thread is basically a place to 'discuss' what people think a component is worth. No-one is going to think that a CEM3340 for example is only worth $10 only if someone posts that here. These are just starting prices which are what I have seen a them selling for. I sold 4 NOS (New Old Stock) CEM3340's and 2 NOS CEM3320's for $50 each. Most of the others are prices I see around all of the time. Music From Outer Space for example was selling SSM2210's for $10 each before running out etc. eBay in addition is NOT a very good place for the evaluation of what something is worth, as they not only sell a lot of fakes, but there are a few unreasonably priced component shops on there which just seem to be there to just artificially inflate prices without selling much of anything (one in particular comes to mind), but don't ask as no flaming or trolling is acceptable on here.
Just out of interest, are you selling NOS or used BA662A's for $44? All of the ones I have seen lately are pulls. |

I don't think the guy selling CEM3340s for $89 is on here... If you were referring to me I sold over 250 CEM chips in the last year (over 150 CEM3340s in fact). I think I have a pretty good idea of what they sell for. I thoroughly test each chip I sell (NOS or not) before shipping them out and have helped 100s of synth folks find rare parts to fix their vintage synths in the last 10+ years. _________________ http://www.synthparts.com |

If you just state what the prices are for all of the CEM IC's for NOS and pulls, we can put of the prices up here. If you think any of those stated here are incorrect, then correct them, that is what the thread is for. |

OK, I have a price list on my web page so I don't know if it's necessary to re-list them here but I can if you think it would be helpful.
The problem I have is that you stated the point of this topic is to list prices so that others aren't being "scammed" into paying too much... So when you say in the first post in bold, colored text that a CEM3340 is worth $50 doesn't that imply that I am "scamming" people by selling them for $74 (even though others have been selling them recently for more)? _________________ http://www.synthparts.com |

Perhaps poorly stated, but I interpreted the intent to be more like "let's have an open discussion of value/price so we can know whether the prices being asked are reasonable or not". Since many of us do this as a hobby/sideline, market research is not high on our list, and if we're working on a project that needs a particular component, it's hard to determine whether a price is too high (which could be "scammed" but I think that's a bit hard-line) or too low (likely to be fake).
Unfortunately I can't say that I have any other input into this at the moment, it's been a while since I bought any of those components, and some I've never had reason to (the CEM stuff, while nice, isn't a requirement and for what I'm doing, so to me it isn't currently worth the premium....I'm happy to leave them to people doing repairs). |

Yes nicely worded. I don't want people to think that I am implying that everything on eBay is fake, but eBay seems to not notice or care that some of the I.C.'s for sale appear to be very bad looking and obvious forgeries, in particular when components hit a magic price of around the $10 mark. SSM2210's for example, are worth about $10, and are just a small 8 pin DIP. I have seen some of these on eBay however which look like an 8 pin op-amp which has been re-stamped. No Analog Devices I.C. I have ever seen looks cheaply and roughly painted like those. |

Oh we could have a whole separate topic on all the fake chips from China, there's tons of them. I've even seen fake SSM2040s.
So how about instead of posting here what price you think chips should sell for how about we post actual recent selling prices of genuine chips? Wouldn't that be more useful? _________________ http://www.synthparts.com |

I was going to buy some SSM2040's off eBay a while ago, but they looked 'hand sanded and painted', so I left them alone.

Anyone can post whatever prices they want, it's up to others to argue whether or not they think the price is acceptable. |

Just my input/opinion/thoughts:
I believe the inherent problem here is that we are dealing with mostly obsolete parts, some of which haven't been available for over 20 years now. There are almost too many variables in determining value, or perceived value.
An example from a different perspective: How much is a taillight assembly for a 1965 Mustang worth? (DISCLAIMER: This is just an example, not to be construed/mutated/morphed into any type of discussion of classic car parts)
If you think about it, we have the same basic issues with value as our hypothetical Mustang taillight shopper. Condition? New/used? Reproduction? How badly do I need it? How soon do I need it? etc.
That said, it all somehow eventually boils down to this: A part is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it at a particular point in time.
Another example for the above: If I'm working on a customer's synth, and they need it in a couple days, I'm willing to pay a lot more for a part that I don't have (within reason), as compared to what I'll pay for it when I'm stockpiling a few of them. _________________ Don Taylor
