Updated to 2012 Macbook Pro + Mavericks

I've been running Snow Leopard for ~3 years on a 2010 MBP, avoiding the last two OS updates.

Unfortunately, I didn't realize that these MBs could actually run with 16GB of ram. I was about to order a 16GB upgrade from OWC, but had a change of heart.

Instead, I bought a refurbished 2012 MBP from Apple, 16GB of RAM from OWC, and a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD from Amazon (Black Friday special).

I've also installed Mavericks, and migrated my data from my old MBP.
This is the first time that I've installed OSX from scratch, and it was a breeze.

This was also the first time I used the Data Migration tool on OSX.
It too was easy and very quick using ethernet-ethernet.
Both MBPs have 1GigE ports.

Everything runs much faster now, and I will be selling my old MBP in the near future.

I did the same recently - well, from an older non-Pro MB to a 2012 MBP refurb.

I've found that most of the Snow-Leopard drivers work where there aren't any more recent drivers available (as in the case of my M-Audio interface).


I will say though, not sure if this applies to your situation, I've found the latency has increased with each OS (I've been using Mac OS X solidly since Leopard).
Otherwise, Mavericks is a very stable OS and I've less trouble than with Mountain/Lion.
