Hi guys,
I need your help. I used to be in a death metal band for about 8 years and now am moving away from that and want to do something with synths, drum loops, electro acoustic guitars. The project is just going to be me and i want to be able to use synths (strings, piano based sounds, ambient noises etc) on a loop that i can programme in live as i perform. Also to have the drums do something similar in regards to a loop. I don’t want real sounding drums. The acoustic guitar and my vocals are to go over the top of this.
At the moment, i have a computer, SONAR X1 and some KRK Rokit speakers. I’m in the process of selling a guitar so i can buy an electro acoustic. But for this project to become a reality, what bits of kit would i need. I haven’t got all the money in the world guys, so i will make do with what i can afford.
My knowledge on what i would need is minimal, i need something that is going to work in the studio as well as live, that only i operate as it is a one person project.
Thanks
James. |

First of all
welcome to electro-music.com!
You may want to look into Ableton Live. It is a piece of software which is a DAW and sequencer, much like Sonar. However, it is geared towards live performance and supports selecting, recording and playing multiple loops and parts live.
You can hook up some pedals or other controllers to control the looper (and the rest of Ableton Live) as you perform.
On Youtube you'll find a ton on videos covering live performance and looping with Ableton Live.
I'm not a user of this software myself, so I can't help you with all the details. We have many members here who use it though, and I'm sure they can answer specific questions about it. |
