Soundfont sources |
 |
|
Hello
I am new to electro-music. I did not know whether this is the forum for this or not, but I was wondering if anybody new any good sources of soundfonts. I have seen Hammersound and other sites similar, but nothing very extensive. Obviously, if I pay to have soundfonts, I will be able to get better quality as well as a wealth of what I may need. I am looking for fat synth sounds (moog, etc.), pads (that have some presence), and acoustic and electronic drums. Any information anyone can offer would be appreciated. |

I use soundfonts all the time. Unfortunately, the largest site where I downloaded most of my soundfonts, www.thesoundsite.net, has been closed for a few years. There are still plenty of great free soundfonts at:
http://www.hammersound.net
I bought a collection of vintage electric piano soundfonts once- I think it was at the official Creative website- and they were pretty bad. I've downloaded plenty more for free that were much better than those. There are lots of great free drumset soundfonts out there.
If you're looking for a specific instrument, I can help you find it.
Soundfonts aren't the most popular format, unfortunately, so more effort has been put into designing high-quality Reason Refills, for example. I still use soundfonts because it's easy to create your own, I use Fruity Loops and it has a soundfont player, and Recycle lets you chop up drum loops and export them as soundfonts. |

Creative/Emu offers a FREE! SoundFont Editor/Creator (Vienna), that allows you to import .WAV files, and export the sound banks for the SoundFont 2.0 format.
If my laptop's soundcard could use them, I would, since that's a bunch of sampling load (& latency!) off my CPU...but alas, it's not for me
