I do not think so.. nah... the wild west myth is not big over here. Remember, there are more norwegians in the US than there are here.
Your current junta .. well... we feel sorry for you guys. Clearly you did not deserve that shit. Hopefully this will change. . The next election? Kick the baboon out of the shelter then? Any decent new candidates?
Of course, the US has other problems, like poverty and crime, but ... well.. most countries have the same problems. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Perhaps, but regardless, there is too little focus on solutions, real solutions, across the board, and with the political and economic clout we toss about regarding far less pressing issues, we have far fewer excuses for not focusing on said solutions. Do we still rank 20th in infant mortality amongst industrialized nations?
And it's not a Bush thing, it's not a presidential or even governmental thing, it's a social apathy thing, and it's all of us to some degree or another. The butterfly effect is a potent factor in socioeconomics, or perhaps I am just terribly naive.
And behold, conversational evolution in effect!

The vocoder voice? That is quite a messy patch. I use similar patches for a lot of the voices in many of my songs. The orginal patch was some sort of an Elektro 80 trademark I guess. Using hardware: synth modules, outboard efx and a stack of VP-330 devices. The big thing with the original patch was that it could be tweaked realtime and there would be controls all over the place in order to make it expressive and groove.
The one you hear in "The Man Who Japed" sounds pretty much the same in this instance but the signal routing has been done in software. What you hear here is not something done just using vocoders. -And the modulator/carrier streams both originate from synth patches. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

I also use stepfiltering a lot. -And often inside such patches / signal routings like the one you mentioned. These days I use mostly software but I have been looking for some nice hardware.
Obviously the best thing would be to build a modular synth based on the style of signal processing that I want. Hmm... actually... some vendor should probably hire me for making such a device.
Anyway... there are several cute devices out there that can do midi controlled stepfiltering. ( Carlo does this in Reason ).

Quote: | However, many users still seek the warmth and inimitable sound character of analog components for their otherwise all-digital production environments - this is where the Waldorf AFB16 Analog Filter Bank provides the ultimate solution:
The AFB16 places 16 high-quality analog filters (featuring self oscillation and analog overdrive) directly into a digital audio workstation's signal path using the widely available USB 2.0 interface. This enables real-time analog processing of audio signals or the use as a filter component to change the sound color for virtual instruments.
After connecting the AFB16 to the computer using a standard USB cable, the AFB16 automatically integrates itself into the digital production environment and 16 real analog filters will be available inside all compatible host systems. Full dynamic control of the filters is achieved inside the host system and plug-ins like the ROT Analog Filter Step Sequencer, the PPG Red or the brandnew Messing.
ROT (German for "red") is a pattern based step sequencer that is capable of producing tempo-synchronized filter patterns for cutoff and resonance.
The PPG Red is a classic wavetable synthesizer, at last with real analog filters.
Messing is a plug-in which take use of the AFB16 VCAs for analog saturation. It is the perfect solution to enhance full digital audio recordings with smoothness and warm sound of analog components. As well as gently saturation up to hard overdrive - everything is possible for the AFB VCAs driven by Messing.
Waldorf will also provide a free Software Development Kit to all interested 3rd party companies so that permits an easy made adjustment of the AFB16 to all current production tools. |
Terratec has a cute little box:
http://audioen.terratec.net/product.php?pid=26
Quote: | MIDI-controllable 12 dB filter with resonance
Low-pass, high-pass, bandpass and notch filter
Volume modulation through VCA
Analog trigger input
Switchable distortion effect
Control positions sent and received via MIDI
Filter modulations: LFO, envelope and MIDI combinable
32 program memory slots
SINE WARP 9 — that's the sound of the 70s with today's technology. TerraTec's multimode filter cleverly enhances the circuitry of the legendary EDP Wasp synthesizer from 1978 with the latest MIDI control and program memory. The heart of the 19" (1U) unit is the VCF with high-pass, bandpass, low-pass and notch modes and an attenuation slope of 12 dB which can be manipulated in many different ways. Envelope and LFO, but also MIDI data such as velocity, note value or modulation wheel can be used to manipulate the filter frequency. The envelope can be triggered via an analog input, the LFO can be synchronized to the MIDI clock — nothing is impossible.
Any changes to the 10 control knobs and 5 buttons on the front panel are output via MIDI and recorded via the sequencer. Your program settings can be stored in one of 32 memory slots. |
The Waldorf AFB page has some audio examples, but I find these pretty unimaginative and slightly stupid. You can do a lot more smarter things with such a device than this. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Trivia: I do not think of what I call patches as just applying EFX to a track. A patch is is fact an instrument which is playable, put together by routing the signal itself and controller parameters. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Great tracks! Just got time to sit down and listen.
Juli came in and started dancing around the studio. She says, "This makes me want to put on my dancing shoes." This is a mysterious comment, actually, because she usually dances barefoot.
I still hear traces of what sounds like Arabic music to me. I think it's the phrasing you use on some of you keyboard licks. I hear it in almost every track, just for very short periods. Don't know if this occurs to anyone else.
I like the variations in dynamics, and in timbres.
Blinded by Memory is my favorite, I think. I need to listen to them all again though. The female voice that starts the ends that track - was it played on a sampler? I was having a great time playing along on my keyboard. Lot's of fun.
You definitely have a sound of your own. Great textures and instrumentation. |

THX a lot.
Arabic music? I think I am getting it now. A japanese buddy told me last week how arabic a lot if norwegian folk music sounds. We discussed the details and I think I understand the connection now. I am a bit influenced by norwegian folk music.. but also folk music from England and France and Spain. And I guess since I do not understand blues or rock.. you guys will hear these influences instead. In retrospect, I just discovered that some of my songs has a structuring that is very much in the vein certain kinds of norwegian folk music. That said, I guess I am not making electronic norwegian folk music. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
