How to connect mixer to Soundcard?

Hello from Norway!

I found this forum some months ago, was reading a lot and now I have a question. My name is Sven, I am 40 and I came from Germany to Norway. I am a totally beginner with music and recording. I have friends in Germany who are producing electronic music as their hobby. Last year I decided to start with music. I started with piano lesson to learn about music theory. Now I have a digital piano, a Yamaha Electone, a Roland JV30 and I am began building analog synths. Electronics is nothing new to me. I'm a ham radio op and build a lot of things.

I bought my first mixer yesterday, its an simple Mackie Mix8. Now I am wondering what the correct connection to the Soundcard in my PC is. The salesman sold me a cable with a stereo minijack and 2 mono quarter inch jacks. The mixer also has an recording output as you can see on the picture. What are the advantages and disadvantages of connecting the main out or the Tape out to the soundcard? I plan to build a amplifier with 4 TDA2030 in bridge configuration for the "monitors". This i want to connect to the CR output.

I'd look at the signal flow (toward the end of the manual) to make sure the outputs, leds, knobs, and buttons will work for what you want to do. It looks like you have a few choices.

Thank you for your answer and the reception. I didn't think of looking for a manual on the net. With the mixer came a quick start guide and I thought there wasn't more.

I read the manual. The advantage of using the tape connectors is that I can record to the pc and listen to my recordings over the mixer without using one of the channels, right?
