I enjoyed the presentation.

The first half reminded me of “back in the day” when I did a lot manipulating tape and equipment. I learned a lot from tape cut and paste, loops, swinging microphones, feedback etc.

Your term “sub-melodic” is a bit obscure... but a useful concept. I’m sure I’ll use it when future conversation warrants.

Your premise comparing the theater/film dichotomy to “Classical” vs recorded or electronic music is a bit like saying “prior to the saxophone there was no saxophone...” however, once you agreed that there is a “gradient” between the different eras I found the premise a useful point of departure for conversation about composition.

I especially liked the discussion regarding how the tools (instruments/equipment) intimately influence how we think about composition. This is true of all art... and for that matter science. We are also influenced by the weight and momentum of what came before. Making something “new” is daunting... and generally happens in that “gradient” of incremental steps.

Bravo! And thank you for sharing.
