Well said Ray! Your SoundLab has definately reached cult status- and hence people wanting to make it something that it isn't. But I think we should accept these quirks- as they all lead to making the device unique.
I know for example that this was also the case with early EMS synthi's and people like Brian Eno would give the repair shop special instructions NOT to fix or alter certain 'design aspects' because he actually liked them and found them unique.
I suppose though (including myself) some people will keep striving towards the perfect product- after all that seems to be human nature (its just a shame that certain people will also apply that idea to other people also, and not just to the creations they make). |

Agreed. I thoroughly enjoy my sound lab just how it is. Well besides the mods and making it patchable. Its got its little quirks, but oh well. I'm not the caliber electrician some of you are so my mind doens't spin on ideas of how to improve it (probably sooner or later it will). Anyway congrats to the designer no need for improvement here. I have removed all bundeling without success.

wiring be thoroughly checked. |
Which I think I've done about ten times already and I'm convinced there's nothing wrong there. Also, I've measured every single wire going from the front panel to the PCB to check if these were wired correctly and they all are.

Missing a ground wire will wreak havoc as far as signals showing up where you don't expect or want them.
|
Trouble is there are few ground connections on the front panel and they are easily checked, so that's not the problem.
Still looking...
One thing I did find in checking, rechecking and checking another ten times was that I never could find connection "OO". Should it be there? |

Etaoin, I have exactly the same problem as you... My noise transistor emitter is at -1.7v and I've got LFO and Osc2 coming to my filter right along with my noise..
I got everything else working though, its finally done "enough" where I can give this gift (a year late : )
its a fun box for sure!!!!! Thanks Ray for all the great synth DIY resources!
keep us posted if you figure out the problem,
~Steve |

Sorry Ray but SL is just great synth. OK it is not like big modular, but
somewhere between Minimoog and Roland System 100 or Prophet Pro one. At least mine works fine (little problem with noise source). Anyway IT sounds great, deep basses and nice leads and not forget effects that it makes. Yes there is no adsr and so on but like TB 303 (little synth) IT IS EXELLENT !!!!!! |

Hi guys just an updating from my finger resistor.
I 've got the same noise problem. One fine day i was trying to understand what was not working in my noise source and by chance i have touched R100 pin 2 and IC7-C pin 8 with the same finger (I have the stripboard version not a huge finger). the noise come up in volume!
what i've done? Simply i've put a 100k-500k resistor in parallel with R100.
so i've changed R100 with a 150k resistor and now everything is working.
Remember, sometimes your finger is the best probe you have! |

Is this the solution for this problem?
Or has anyone been able to solve this dilemma yet? My lab is suffering here from osc 2 bleed through |
