Perhaps we should let this thread survive until we have had Irad back ?
If not, I am quite capable to list a lot of excellent nonexisting japanese products which never will be in mass production any time soon. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

what's that bottle-shaped synth I see on your new avatar? I do not recognize it |
That would be a Mickey's Synthex 40 Hoppular Malt Synthesis Module. Whats on the plate is...
...vapourware. Maybe it will be at Summer NAMM '04
Incidentally, if changing Avatars on a regular basis is frowned upon, let me know. I like change every so often.

This is where all schools collide, I suppose. I contribute what I can, but often feel like a 5 year old in a ham radio shack. <snicker> It's fun though. At least I can say I have a pre-midi synth, even if it is a DCO-based one, and not modular. And I can make some mean mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs. So there!

| shoot, don't feel bad about your gear; i've a pretty earthy rig myself. An old ghetto Yamaha 4-track, Boss DR-202 Dr. Groove drum machine, coffee-stained Equinox mixing board, Casio SK-5, Boss ME-30 guitar multieffects pedal (which just about everything gets run through courtesy of the mixer's aux in/outs), a couple old microphones, guitar w/Rat and Vox wah pedals, Boss TU-2 guitar tuner, bass, trumpet, melodica, small Fender Frontman guitar amp, a big crappy super-dirty cymbal and an eight foot long piece of sheet metal with a pickup stuck to it. It's the other two guys in the band that have all the "nice" stuff, half of which I don't even know what they're called. There's a pedal steel guitar, a TR-707, a Gibson Echoplex, and a whole bunch of other whizbang crap. |

My setup is basicly a Juno 60, an Alpha Juno 1, a Matrix 1000, a DR-660, a DM5, a TX-7, a TR-505, an HR-16, a Peavey Spectrum Filter that I believe has gone on to eat the bread of life with Jesus, a Mackie 32-8 with non-functional mains and VU meter lights (the result, I suspect, of letting someone else move it to OK for me), my Ibanez bass, Samick guitar, Yamaha acoustic, some pedal effects here and there, then my PCs with an array of softsynths and plugs and crap all centered around Sonar. Blah. I'm not much of a gearhead or a geartalker. Sorry.

In my opinion, everyone has something to contribute, both musically and philosophically, regardless of their experience/knowledge/gear.
So keep those posts coming!

What, you leave me off of the show-off list?
First Bill wants to run me through a high-pass filter and now this. What have I done to deserve this? Last edited by mosc on Mon Nov 24, 2003 3:15 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Hey all,
I was searching through the forums for threads on good books for general synth programming/sound creation, and I thought this thread (and others) was pretty good for some must-read books...
I've heard a lot about "The Complete Guide to Synthesizers" by Devarahi, but it wasn't mentioned here.. and from the prices I've seen it go for, it seems like a big deal. Anyone know much about it? I was wondering if it was really worth tracking down, or maybe other books suffice.
Thanks for putting up a good community, I feel pretty good posting here. |
