This is an attempt at modeling Scottish Highland bagpipes, based on Chet Singer's reed model (http://electro-music.com/pm_tutorial/).

The tuning of bagpipes is an interesting subject. In a very small nutshell, this particular type of bagpipe, the famous Scottish Highland pipes, has three drone pipes tuned to A, as well as a melodic "chanter" pipe that plays 9 notes of a just Mixolydian scale. The A may be tuned to any reference from 440 Hz up to 485 Hz, and the notes in the scale are named somewhat differently than is traditional.

This model maps all of these to the white notes between G4 and A5. I like to play this by holding down G4 and then playing the melody notes with the occasional trill.

Sorry, the black keys are not tuned, and the other variations are not populated. The first variation is tuned to A-440; there is a tuning block in the FX section.

The patch creates one drone in each of three voices, and the chanter voice, along with post processing and the bag driver in the FX area. It is set for three voices, but if set to four voices, an additional drone tuned to E is added. This is a solo patch; I can't wait to try it through Tim Kleinert's diffusion chorus for a full military band.

This should be a rich area for exploration of other types of bagpipe, which are apparently found all over the world.

Wonderful! I spent few hours watching videos of bagpipe (scales, how to tune it, history, etc..)! This is an excellent example of the continuation of Chet Singer's reed model.

I had a little issue when I was trying to tune the pipes. When I often press on the same note, after 4 or 5 times, the tone of the sound changes and the note remains steady even when I release it. But everything is fine when I use the patch as you say (holding down G4 and playing the melody notes) and what seems to me the right way.

I am still having fun with today by combining it with different types of effects. I love the sound!

Thank you!
