Touch funcionality on mobile devices and touch displays. Subject description: Touch displays |
 |
|
I tested the "wren" on "Surface Pro 4" with touch and stylus. And maybe it is nice idea to add some optional funcionality that you can pick at setting menu to help patching on the go with touch display or stylus. One pretty simple addition i can think of is optional single bigger knob somwhere on ui to change parameters. Someone select knob from patch with touch or stylus and there is little bit bigger knob to change values more comfortably, optionally with midi cc. One meta knob refreshing dynamically. Bigger addition i can think of is 2x larger ui because at bigger resolutions wren is really small or fuzzy with windows scalling applied. One more little addition that will help on the go will be creating module by number with some shortcut or visual ui with numerical buttons because on smaller resolution touch devices it can be cumbersome. |

There currently are some different mouse modes .. did you play with that? I forgot what the default out-of-the-box settings are .. but there is auto knob focus on mouse enter .. and then you can change values with cursor keys .. thete is circular motion but also linear horizontal or vertical .. I'd think that it would be controllable with a stylus then ... for finger control tho .. lol ... (*edit*) even .. like the RME control panel on the ipad .. it is quite big .. but I often use a pen to control it instead of fingers.
Unfortunately the current user interface scales vary badly .. a lot of stuff is done with bitmaps instead of vector drawings. A new user interface has been on my wishlist for long .. but it is a lot of work .. and then I end up patching ;-)
Also ..the patch area has a context menu (right click with a conventional mouse) you can use it to insert modules. All the submenus there have keyboard shortcuts too - would that help? _________________ Jan

Yes im using that menu actually. But on smaller 8 inch tablet it is sometimes cumbersome. And on surface in fhd everything is tiny small when i disable scalling but with scalling everything is blurry. With stylus is mostly ok but this bigger knob would do the job. With touch only it is impossible to navigate but could be with some optional little interface like numpad and id's of in or outs and one bigger knob. It's funny... but it's funny because touch interfaces are joke mostly. |

I have been experimenting a bit with a user interface which scales better (vector stuff, zoomable) and where the drawing is (partially) being offloaded to the GPU.
Sofar .. it looks much nicer with anti-aliasing and all and can it make stuff fractional pixel sized even, but I'm not very impressed by the performance of it (and I do have a not too old 'gaming' laptop with a supposedly quick GPU).
I'm get audio artifacts too when dragging stuff around on the screen .. so dunno .. this will be on low prio at best ... dunno ... it seems a bit odd tho that this is the outcome.
I'm thinking about that other idea still though, to have a bigger module copy once you select a module, such that you can finger edit it more easily. But nothing tried yet. _________________ Jan

With nvidia cards there is always problem with low latency and audio drop outs. You can see this with "latencymon". Maybe consider checking "JUCE". If i remember correctly "AUDULUS" gui was created around this framework and was working very smooth. Also ALPHA FOREVER gui run very nice on gpu. Anyway thanks for that poly funcionality I need to find some time to dive into this. |
