Hi there, today my beloved jv1080 passed away. It was working and suddenly it turned off. I’ve tried to open it and immediately a chemical smell started to come out of the gear. At my sight capacitors seems to look good and the transformer still does his usual noise when the power button is switched on.
The display is turned off, midi and sounds don’t work.
Do you have any idea or a hint on the possible cause?

Hi,

first you need to check that the power supply is working. Here https://www.synthxl.com/roland-jv-1080/ you can download the service notes with the schematic. The power supply is on page 17. Check the output of the transformer (connector CN401 on the powersupply board) for 5V and 12V. If these are fine check the output of the power supply on connectors CN404 and CN405 for the correct voltages.

I hope its just the 5V supply for the digital part. If the 5V and the 12V are fine check if all the ic's get there supply voltages. The linked schematic is not very helpful with this since its almost impossible to read the pin numbers, so you need to look at the datasheets for the ic's.

Thats all I can help you with. If there are problem with the digital parts I can't help.

Good luck Smile
