USB 2.0 Audio Interface issues with Mac computers? |
 |
|
Hi
My current laptop is a MacBook Pro from 2019, therefore using the Apple T2 Security Chip that seems to have caused problems with USB 2.0 Audio Interfaces.
I found plenty of posts about this issue from 2018, but can't find any post saying that the issue has since been sorted...
Does anyone here knows if that's the case?
My laptop is still stuck with Mac OS 10.15.7 (Catalina) and since I don't have any sound card I can use with it, I was considering getting an Apogee Duet 2 (or a Duet for Mac/PC/iOS, the seller is not sure...) as I found one for a pretty reasonable price!
Other options would be to get an adapter to use my RME Fireface 800 with this computer, but the adapter will pretty much cost as much as the new sound card...
Or I could also consider just getting a newer sound card... It should end up being a bit more expensive to get something with this quality, but maybe it would be worth it?
If anyone here has some experience with this, it would be great to get some feedback!
Thanks in advance, best regards, Paulo |

The adapters around $30 isn’t it? |

Sadly here in Portugal they are considerably more expensive than that, almost double...
But back when I posted, I wasn't sure that my RME Fireface 800 was working that well, as sometimes before my performances, it really didn't want to connect to the computer...
Since then, I found out the issue seems to be with the computer, rather than the sound card, as it works just fine with my old iMac G5!
So maybe I should really check if RME is still supporting the Fireface 800, it's a pretty good sound card, so if it works just fine, could indeed be a better option!
Anyone here still uses one of those with newer computers?
My current laptop is running Catalina, but I hope soon I'll get a new computer, so it would be great to be sure it should still run with newer OSs without any problem...
The sound card I was hoping to get I ended up not getting as the seller seemed to have some issues... It was likely for the best... |
