So yeah, Im very interested in getting my toes wet in Linux music production but can't figure out which of the gazillion distros and programs to use. Well, I'm not new to Linux as I'm using Arch as my main OS, but I am interested to learn what you as a Linux musician use to get the job done, what would be best to start out with what works better or worse, etc. So far, I've dabbled in a few music progs, mostly cheesetracker, Ocenaudio, Edisyn, and Ctrlr along with jack and some rack plugins on Arch, and had my ups and downs with them (including Arch, so open for other suggestions). I'm thinking of going semi dawless and mainly use sequencer software and something to record and lightly post process. But as the post implies, what do you use and why, what works best for you and what doesn't, to get an idea how to navigate through the foss forest.

welcome

I use Linux for lots of stuff, including hosting electro-music.com. So far, I haven't used it for composing or even audio editing, but I'm getting closer to going that route, but not there yet.

A good thing is Reaper runs on Linux. But, as you mention, what distro to use is a question. Much of my music software doesn't run afaik, including Equator2. At this point I'm not ready to jump in the rabbit hole; not sure what it would buy me.

Good luck to you though.
