Noise Factory Sweden 2025 |
 |
|
The Noise Factory is a multi-day workshop created by Wolfgang Neven (Y-Ton-G) and taking place this year for the 31st time in Karze (Lower Saxony).
Thomas and I attended last year and subsequently thought there ought to be a Noise Factory in Sweden, so this year's Noise Factory Sweden took place for the first time from July 25th to 27th in Thomas' studio in the picturesque Herrestadsfjället near Uddevalla in southern Sweden.
Since we wanted to test the concept on a small scale first, we didn't advertise it, but instead approached potential interested parties directly. In the end, there were only two of us, but we'd welcome more in the future.
Each of us had a small analog mixer for our instruments and effects, which went to an AH mixing console, where two nearfield monitors provided the room sound. The recording was done on an old MacBook.
Thomas used a Somos Enner, a Stylophone CPM-DS2, and a Leaf Audio Microphonic Soundbox, along with a reverb and delay pedal for send effects.
I used a Yamaha CS01 and a Leaf Audio Microphonic Soundbox, occasionally with an external piezo microphone. A series of effects pedals consisting of Cooper FX Arcades, a Gamechanger Audio Light Pedal, and DBA Rooms served as send effects.
After each session, which lasted between 20 and 50 minutes, we listened to the results together and discussed what we liked and didn't like. Listening to the recordings from the three days, it's clear how the recording quality improved significantly, for example, by adjusting the levels, and how the interaction improved: bolder and more focused.
The noise-making was interrupted by the obligatory coffee breaks (in Swedish: fika), short hikes in the surrounding area, and on Saturday, a trip to Bången to the old blacksmith shop, where a friend demonstrated traditional blacksmithing, and shared meals.
The studio's secluded location made it incredibly quiet, and when we returned to town on Sunday afternoon, it was like returning from a long journey, full of new impressions and insights, and new musical ideas.
Hope to see you next year!
