Hello... Mezmer here... |
 |
|
Hello everyone. Mezmer = Michael Chocholak. New here. Familiar with a few of the names I've seen here, but only a few, so will continue cruising web pages & enjoying a goodly range of Emusic.
Wanted my mp3 tracks to settle in here 'n there after the death of Mp3.com (an unconscionable act in my opinion) before introducing myself as I feel my music is what it's all about & says it best.
Most of my electronic work is at DMusic
http://michaelchocholak.dmusic.com/
A cool web music community that is going through some changes and is looking for internal & external support. I'm new there too, but may be another good place to hang out.
There are also a few electronic and electroacoustic pieces at Soundclick http://www.soundclick.com/bands/3/michaelchocholakmusic.htm (towards the bottom of the page). And a few with Misha as well http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/mishanoghamusic.htm
A few at Vitaminic
http://stage.vitaminic.com/main/michael_chocholak/all_tracks/ (bottom of page)
And I've posted two new pieces at ic-musicmedia
http://www.ic-musicmedia.com/artist_pages/artistpage.php?id=42429 . There's some verbage there too. These folks allow deeplinking on a free account.
Mostly abstract. Of course I also recommend the other tunes that are more mainstream depending on your sonic tastes.
BTW, in reference to a previous post & perhaps due to my living farther west; I occasionally ride my horse, often wear my cowboy hat, have been known to carry a six gun (for varmints certainly), have lassoed a calf or two, and at one time filled our fruited plain with cherry trees before we started raising... Norwegian Fjord horses! (and still have a acre or two of apples).
Homepage is at http://www.eoni.com/%7Emishamez/badge2.htm.
Hope you enjoy.

Hey man! Welcome! This rocks! I am listening to your songs right now.
Norwegian Fjord horse? I reckon that is what we call a "fjording". Nice beast! _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Most of the folks here aren't very mainstream, so you're in good company. I can't wait to get home and check these tracks out if my favorite Norwegan is raving about them. I get off in 90 minutes, grrrr...!

Thanks! Glad you liked the 'difficult listening hour'.
btw Michael is fine. Mezmer is just one of many nicks.
Yeah, love our fjordings; our Big Dogs; other than racing or jumping, the best horse in the world.
Grabbed your stream last night before Mp3.com became history. Cool grooves with drive & a good energy. Liked the changes you put the pieces through.
We also dig PKD in a big way. More and more 'reality' seems to carry his signature.
Also got Jeremy's Sandborne before it became the very wee hours; smooth sound with a nice rhythm; felt like it should be coming at me from the silver screen.
Much more to listen to. Main limitation is the 56k modem competing with our usually busy phone on a single line. But I will persist.
Is there someplace on this site that simply lists where one can specifically go to hear member's music? If not, is this a possibility? _________________ Que la musique sonne - Edgard Varese

Actually, Mosc JUST recently added an "Online Music" forum for that very purpose, which was a great idea. When I find a perminantish home for my tracks, I'll post in there as well. Seraph and some others have posted there. The whole MP3.COMpost situation has left many of us somewhat homeless in that respect.

Good to hear from you AgentA! Yeah, I hope to be around, here 'n there.
I think the mouse must have slipped when I posted Latent Destination cuz it got catagorized as Hip Hop. Ha! Must have been a surprise to at least a few. But who knows, maybe EM will get some converts, eh?
See you on the webwaves. _________________ Que la musique sonne - Edgard Varese

Thanks! I tried to capture the enigmatic essence of my pseudonymic namesake.
BTW if anyone is into Japanese cop movies, there's a great one by Kiyoshi Kurosawa called The Cure that obliquely draws on the work of Anton Mezmer. _________________ Que la musique sonne - Edgard Varese

I posted a few new pieces at my ic-musicmedia site;
http://www.ic-musicmedia.com/artist_pages/artistpage.php?id=42429
Started playing around with direct manipulation of wave forms and contrasting timbres. Haven't worked on pieces solely within the computer for quite a while, but now I'm thinking I might linger here for a stretch. _________________ Que la musique sonne - Edgard Varese

I'm listening to your music right now, in particular Blue Star Kachina . That piece creates quite a mood. Edgey Ambient, I wouldn't have it any other way! Very cool piece. Can't wait to hear the rest of the page. BTW...great to see Thurston and Branca commenting on your music. Plus Gajoob and Fact Sheet Five...you must have been a taper!!! _________________ Joseph Benzola

Is this back in the pre-web days when cassette tapes rather than mp3s went around the world to 'zines rather than websites? Or something else? I wasn't involved but I had a friend who got his music reviewed and sold in Europe that way. _________________ Power On,

Yep. The immediate planetary access of the internet is awesome, but there were many aspects of the independent cassette (K7) movement that were very cool. The sharing of music was great, but the manner in which it was shared was perhaps the best part because the whole movement was also wrapped up in mailart. You'd go down to the post office & every week was like christmas - you'd come back with a stack of 'packages' - like a Swedish cereal box full of plastic fish, postcards, pages torn from books, artwork, photos, other assorted bizarre cultural icons and of course... a music tape & a 'talkie' tape! In response you'd go down to the Salvation Army & buy an old baseball mitt or a plastic dumptruck which you would then cram with music & talkie tapes & all manner of esoteric paraphernalia, tape it up, slap a mailing label on it and off it went to Australia, or Japan, or Brazil, etc.
Met a lot of way cool people that I still consider family even though we've never accomplished a face to face (yet).
Thanks to changes in postal rates, regulations, processing equipment & good ole homeland security you can't do that sort of thing anymore. Bummer. It was hella fun!
There's a page run by archivist Robin James here -> http://www.halcyon.com/robinja/mythos/aaaa.html that will give you an overview of the movement. There are links to brief essays by many active in the movement (including yrs trly) that, although the terms are dated, still apply to the mp3/internet movement that is evolving around us today. _________________ Que la musique sonne - Edgard Varese
