I've got ~125 LM324s and thought I'd build something of them. They're good since they run on both single and dual power supply, but the input voltage range is from -0.5V to 32V, not +/-15V as the TL084 Confused Is that a big disadvantage?

I know that the DS7 uses LM324, but I don't want 60 of those Razz

Is there any other good applications of the LM324?

Good for sensors (piezo drum pads, photodiode light sensors, simple microphone circuits). Maybe build a new controller instrument?

Arthur Harrison's audio sweep oscillator uses a couple LM324s:

CGS39 quad logic gate uses two LM324s, you could build 60 of those.
CGS29 wave multipliers use three......40 ?

yes, those logic gates looks interesting. I'll build some of these too Very Happy

the 324 is a good comparator I guess Rolling Eyes

Agree! I used them extensively for interfacing my wind controller to a pic:

The 324 was (is still?) used on a lot of Electro-Harmonix effect pedals. I bought some of them years ago for a Small Clone chorus. Hehe, that one ended up being the most heavily modified project I've ever built . Very Happy

That spec is actually for single-supply operation and it's a huge advantage. It doesn't apply, in the range stated, for dual supply operation. What it's saying, and a unique attribute of the part, is that the common mode range, in single supply, includes ground by virtue of PNP input devices. Vout also goes to ground and the 324 has very low supply current ideal for battery use.

The penalty is that the output runs essentially in class-B with large cross-over distortion and low slew rate.

One application for the LM324 you don't normally see is in bar-graph comparator strings. They're simply too slow to oscillate and thus make a fairly good driver. SSL used them in the 82E10 channel dynamics processor as a GR indicator.

http://www.ka-electronics.com/images/SSL/ssl_82E10.pdf

This part is over 30 years old and still a valuable workhorse.

I've used the 324 in the latest incarnation of my SNICster waveshaper:
http://home.comcast.net/~ijfritz/sy_cir10.htm
This new variation is a simplified version of the original without the extra waveshaping features. I used the 324 for the control and output sections (A3a, A4a, b, c). The slow slew rate removes most of a nasty switching glitch the occurs at the point where the input SAW switches.

Very Happy

How about the LM358? Confused Could the LM324 replace it?
Or are there important differences?

I know they're 8-pin and 14-pin, but one could change the PCB layout for that.

national semiconductor says for the lm358 in the 'also recommended' box -

"LM324 Quad Version"

which means I guess its pretty much identical in characteristic

FINALLY finished my Wave Multiplier from Ken Stone a couple of weeks ago. If you like twisting things around and you still have a lot of LM324's - buy some Wave Multipliers!! ShockedShockedShocked OMFG! That is one extremely impressive collection of modules that Ken cobbled together!! I'll be ordering at LEAST 1 more of them for twisting things around. Very Happy It has a nicely simple but nice and gritty at times distortion section as well. Wink

Also - if you wanted to offload some 324's and are a Paypal'er- lemme know! Wink I use them in a few things as well. Very Happy

Thanks for the answer guys Very Happy

This means I can use more of my 324s Cool . For example: cgs drum simulator, cgs analog xor/xnor, Yusynth audio/CV Mixer... Twisted Evil

Rykhaard: I think I'll build the Yusynth version of that multiplier. No 3080s there Smile

Btw, If I get any of my 324s left I'll let you know Wink

there is a 0R resistor in the hold section. never seen something like that. what's about this zero ohm resistor?

I assumed, as Houshu has `corrected dec01` next to it, he previously had a resistor there but decided it wasn`t necessary and it was easier to insert 0 R than redraw the schematic.

That was just my assumption, in fact you CAN buy 0 R resistors (why? I don`t know)

You can write to Houshu - he is a VERY nice guy (he once drove a return trip total of about 4 hours to pick me and my synths up, to go to a synth-diy meeting)

About zero ohm resistors:
Wikipedia wrote:
