| I was looking into adding SPDIF or AES/EBU. I had dropped it, but my G2 is out of warranty at this point, so I am considering it again. Not that I truely *dislike* the DACs myself (especially as I get more experience patching), but I feel that if I generate the audio digitally, it should all stay in the digital realm until the very last moment. No sense in going back & forth just to add phase shifts and introduce crap from jitter & non-linear conversions. Plus it makes for very clean connections to the G2 from my laptop. |

Could anyone guide me to the tilt filter and saturation buidling blocks by Rob? I know i've seen the filter somewhere but can't seem to find both of these exact files at this moment.
The search does reply with some hits but none guide me to either of these......
Thanks in advance.....
Oh yea.....and by all means keep talking.....interesting discusion if you ask me....

It's become relatively easy for me to add the girt and beef to a G2s sound character that you get on the NM Classic.
|
If someone could educate me on how to achieve this (since i don't have a Nord Modular "classic" or Nord Lead 2 to compare with) i could end up not even having to go to the trouble of getting a Nord Modular rack in the first place.
My question is....after you achieve this.....does it become possible to patch Nord Lead 2 like structures that sound similar to the NL2? Doesn't have to be exact match...i just like what i've heard..... |
The very first thing to do would be getting Rob's "tilt filter" and "satuartion" building blocks. Those add a lot already, regardless of what else you do. |

Hmmm ok....are we talking about the "Spectral tilter" thing? That is the only thing i cn really find in there.
And the saturation thing must be called differently because i cannot seem to find that at all......... |

yeah, it's this:

then, for example, you can add something like Rob's odd/even harmonic distortion block to the path. a little goes a long way.
also, i'm definitely interested in adding digital out(s) to my G2... probably more cost effective than a DAC/clock upgrade. |

Wow....must say that this rocks beyond my wildest dreams.
This really changes the character a lot more than i expected......the tilt filter is very nice and de even and odd harmonic thing are ver nice indeed.
One of the harmonics patches (don't remember if it was even or odd) reminds me of a part of the Sherman Filterbank demo....sounds incredibly close to the sound in that demo.
I don't have any clue of how close this actually brings the sound to a Nord Lead 2 since i don't have one of those.....i am trying to find someone in my area that has a Nord Lead 2 or Modular Classic so i can demo it a bit.
For now i didn't buy the Nord Modular classic because i still think no midi out and midi for editting is to much of a hassle. Also Rob's module order story in the tilt filter thread concerns me a bit. I might just buy a Nord Rack 2 to keep the G2's company.
I could easily change my mind though....... |

The module placement defining execution order issue is a huge improvement that the G2 made; absolutly. I'd have to say that practically that only realy affects certain kinds of fairly advanced techniques. I think that most people won't notice the difference most of the time. I also strongly suspect that it can be proven that not all execution orders that can be usefull can actually be defined within the editor but I'm going to run that theory past Rob before I publicly make a fool of myself :¬) _________________ Kassen |
