Syncing Laptops

I've been talking with a few guys and we discussed getting an electronic group together, we would mainly use laptops and software bcause it is much cheaper for us than hardware at the time.

So I'm curious how we could all sync together? To make sure we are all always at the same place in a song as everyone else.

pick one laptop to be the 'master' clock...set your DAW to spit out MTC thru a midi interface...hook everyone in...make sure all 'slave' laptops are set to receive MTC...

if you don;t have a multiple in/out midi interface, you will have to use the 'thru' port to pass the MTC along the chain

possible troubleshooting: make sure the MTC frame rate is the same on all machines [30fps, 25fps etc]

in a pinch, Midi Clock will work..sort of

I heard a lot of people have troubles with PCs (ie non-dedicated hardware) as a master MIDI device, and I have had some bad experiences with that myself.

There are some standalone MIDI clock generators, can't think of any names right now, that might be had cheaply )eBay etc) and would keep things a lot tighter.
