Hello folks - my first post. Coming from the G1, I'm trying to familiarize myself with some of the new G2 stuff. I've got a basic question about setting up a basic event/drum sequencer designed to control external midi equipment: how do I specify the note length?

I've attached an image of my current patch, which is just sending microscopic note lengths, as you'd expect. What would be the most economical way of specifying note duration? Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to help!

welcome Bloombox.

there are several things you could do.

You could press the litle T buttons on the sequencer to to change from trigger to Gate mode. Problem with that is that connected notes will not retrigger as no new pulse is generated. Which is a feature at the same time.

You could add an inverter module after the triggers to make a signal that is low for a short while and high for most of the time.

You could add a pulse module between the sequencer and the MIDI send, that way you can control the note length, but it will have to be retuned after a tempo change.

Another alternative would be to add a Flip-Flop module in S/R mode that is set by the sequencer's trigger out and reset by an inverted version of the clock signal.

Finally it should be possible to use an LFOB set to clk mode and synced to the clock.

I'm going to move this to the G2 section.

Attached should be a couple of ideas for you.

I patched it blind as the G2 is not plugged into this machine and I couldn't be bothered switching on my music cpu, sorry.

There's a bit of an explanation in the notepad (ctrl+J if it dosen't show automatically.

I never really use the midi modules and my one experiment using them to control a JP8080 wasn't entirely successful so in my logic they should work but feel free to tell me if they don't.

Happy patching.

D.

edit: beaten to the post by Jan, vastly different solutions, I'm going to have to have a pick at yours to work out what's going on, looks interesting as ever though.

An extention to one of Jan's solutions is to connect a level sequencer to the modulation input of the pulse length (which is patched from the first sequencer's output), thereby allowing you to set different notes to different lengths... not so economical, but more versatile. Very Happy
