Serial / Parallel Filters Subject description: Switch between 2 routings |
 |
|
Hi',
I try to build a synth; this synth uses 2 oscillators, 2 filters and would have two signal routings :
First (serial) : oscillators 1&2 are mixed together, the signal go in the first filter, then, it goes to the second filter.
Second (Parralel) : Oscillator 1 goes in filter one; osillator 2 goes in filter 2. Then, both are mixed.
I try to use the switchs modules (2In / 2 Out) but it's a complex patch...
Thank you for your help if you have any idea, and sorry for my bad english |

Indeed, you'll need Switches and Mixers and use the Value Switch and just one normal Switch, which give a control value of 4 units at the control out. The Value Switch will work at value 4 units, of course.
I'll try later...

Thank you Wout Blommers ; I've tried with switches and mixers but I don't find the patch ...

I hope it work, because I have no G2 connected at the moment...
The crux is in the Control Output of the HeadSwitch. When set in Out2 it sends 4 units out.
All Switches will react and go in the second position.
Position 1 is the serial Filter set up.
The signal enters Mix1, is connected By Filter1Switch to the Filter1 Input.
Filter1 is connected to Input1 of the Filter2Switch and into Filter2 and connected to the first position of the EndSwitch.
Position 2, the parallel set up.
Osc1 Output2 is fed into position Input of Filter1Switch and into Filter1, which is connected to Mix2 Input1 (Filter2Switch Input1 isn't active
Osc2 is fed into Filter2Switch, which is connected to the second Input of Filter2.
The EndSwitch has only Filter2 Output (serial) or in second position the Mix.
How about this?

Excellent ! You are very strong ! I've now to understand how your patch works, because it's what I was looking for.
Thank you very much ! |

The idea is that the basic modules, the Oscillators and the Filters need two different routings for the Output or the Input. You have to thank Rob Hordijk for these possibilities, because he basically designed the Switches to the G2 to create such patches.

I didn't know the fonction of the "Valsw2-1" and "Valsw1-2", but I think I begin to understand. In fact, we have 2 mixers : one for the serial routing, and the second for the parallel routing. I find that the choice beetween both routings is very usefull to change the timber of the sound.
Thank you Rob Hordijk for these modules ! |

Of course you'll need two mixers, because in principle you can't change the order in which the modules are affecting the signals. A Reverb just after the Oscillators is a lot different then placed at the end of the line...
The second mixing was in your concept, though.
To find out what modules are doing I advise you to read the Manual
And discuss it on the forum, because these cases are much more interesting then the Manual.

Yes, I've the manual, but it is very "short" on these modules; nothing in fact. 3 lines on the "Valsw", it's not enough to understand.
This forum is a good source of help ! |

one thing to watch out for and correct is inserting amp modules to balance the A->B mix. a simple crossfade module alone won't do it. otherwise you have different volumes fighting for volume when you cross fade.
I just got nipped badly by one recently, but it is due to crazy osc amplification on the A side, while the B is quite pure and soft ... crossfading must be corrected before (the crossfade) and after (amp boost, even though this keeps raising the noise floor)
I love the G2.
