Problem with Envelopes Subject description: Clicky Envelopes |
 |
|
Hi, I´ve been trying to find some information on this topic but no one seems to have the same problem. The thing is i get clicks on my amp envelope stage , on some patches this would be easily fixed by incrementing the attack time and the release time, but on some others it will just click and pop nevermind the attack time or the relase time. (of course the clicks will increase if i decrease the attack time) Well i just wanted to know if anyone has a workaround for this one or knows how to patch a SILENT and FAST attack envelope.
Thanks for your time! |

I curious as to how it can click however long you set the attack. Could you post an example patch?
Generally I think it's one of those things that you'll solve differently depending on how you want to use the sound.
I know that Kassen's talked some about a technique for triggering a sound at the time it crosses zero. One thing to try could be throw in a CMP C module, and, when your gate goes high, wait until you get a positive edge from the compare module before triggering the envelope. I don't know how well this will work on the Nord, but maybe it's worth a try.

I think I know what this problem might be -
If you are using keyboard velocity to control the envelope level, and you play a new note while the envelope is still sustaining from a previous note, and the new note has a different velocity from the previous note, the envelope will INSTANTLY snap to a different level, even if the attack, decay, and release times are all set long. This is because the new note's new velocity value will instantly adjust the envelope's level, and cause a slight 'click' when it jumps to this new value and instantly changes the sound's volume or filter cutoff or whatever is being controlled by that envelope.
The solution - instead of connecting the keyboard velocity signal directly from the keyboard module to the envelope's amplitude input jack, pass this signal through the GLIDE module set to a fast rate like 1 msec. When a new note is at a different velocity from the previous note, it will smooth out the transition just enough to stop the instant 'click'. _________________ Dave Peck |

Nice idea dude Never thought of using the Comp function like that.
Though this may cause problems delaying some low notes. _________________ iP (Ross)
