Wow and flutter effect |
 |
|
Hi,
I have been trying to make a wow and flutter effect using the Nord G2 with minimum latency.
Using this slightly modified excellent patch : http://www.electro-music.com/forum/topic-42423.html i have been able to make something great but its dsp hungry. This patch is quite complicated so i dont understand completely how it work and it's maybe overkill to achieved such effect.
I simply added a random module to modulate pitch and a little but of noise.
I tried with the pitch shifter module but its kinda flangy sounding, not great.
Also tried with 2 double delay lines modulated by a random module, its better but the modified Tim patch sounds more natural.
Does anyone ever attempted to make such effect ?
Thanks.

Remember that time-domain (delay-based) pitch shifters always also exhibit latency, depending on buffer size.
What is the maximum latency you can deal with? And how extreme do you want the low-frequency detuning?
I ask that because it might well be possible to find acceptable delay time and modulation speed/-intensity settings for just modulating a simple delay line. (Edit: If you haven't tried that already.) |

Hi Tim
Yea, i understand there is going to be some latency but i dont mind if its not too high. I am not looking for a drastic effect, just something realistic that i am going to use with a Fender Rhodes.
Already tried with a simple delay line modulated and it was ok.
At first i was messing with one of your patch just for fun as i was trying to understand it. Modulating the pitch with using a random module gave me a good result so i've tried the same with just a stereo delay line modulated by the same random values but i wasn't sure if it was the best way to do it.
Btw Tim, you've made incredible thing with the G2 ! Amazing skills really.
Thanks.

Something that might suit what you're doing is delaying the original signal a bit as well as running your delayed wow and flutter.
That way the wet mix is running at the same time as the dry and you can bring the sound back and forward in time.
This won't work too well on things like keyboard performances, where latency is a total mood killer but if you're causing an entire track to lag you probably won't notice the difference.
Can you attach what you've made so far? |

Hi,
I've made this simple patch using dual delays.
Its quite simple but i like the effect.
Check variations number 7 and 3
