This patch is just a curiosity. It is based on the Cyndusties Dual Sawtooth Animator module (which looks excellent).
In the analogue domain, good temperature compensated VCO’s are expensive. This module takes a single oscillator and makes it sound like 5/10 by making 4 modulated phase shifted copies. Four LFO/phase shifter circuits are a lot less critical (expensive) to produce.
On the G2, the phase shifting circuit (one shown in yellow) eats lots of zero page memory. This makes it less expensive to just use 5 sawtooth oscillators Rolling Eyes .
Also, the anti aliasing employed on the G2 does not survive the phase shifting intact. Looking at the waveform it is possible to see a windowed-sinc pulse at the point on the slope where the original discontinuity is located. This means that the anti aliasing is effectively defeated resulting in a nasty gritty sound.
On the plus side, it does indicate that Clavia have taken a fairly expensive (dsp) route with the G2 anti-aliasing. Most of the research to do with minBlep etc comes well after the NM classic was released.
So, there is room for improvement in this area with future releases. I get the impression they haven’t quite got it right yet.
