September Equinox 2020 live streaming event Subject description: Signup is closed |
 |
|
Time to start warming up those synths, and/or other instruments that need warming up,
and join us for another streaming event to celebrate the annual September Equinox!
This event will be on electro-music radio on Saturday Sptember 26, 2020.
It will start somewhere around 15:00 GMT and end whenever it is over depending on the number of participants.
The schedule can be found in the wiki and threads to previous events can be found here.
As always, if you are interested in performing, please copy/paste this Sign-Up template and post in this thread:
1. Preferred Start Time (Please use GMT/Military Time):
2. Set Length (30 or 60 minutes):
3. Artist Name (For displaying on the poster):
4. Chat Name (if different from artist/forum name):
5. Location (City/State/Country - Optional):
6. Description (Style/Genre/Equipment, etc. - Optional):
7. Website Address (Optional):
8. Anything else you like to mention:
For reference, this clock could be useful:
First Time Streamers Please Read:
Please review the Electro Music Copyright Policy
Please note: "Preferred Start Time". We will do the best that we can to accommodate people to their requested times. However, please be flexible because this event will have European and American musicians in many different time zones. Time slots will be on a semi-"first come-first served" basis. Furthermore, please post your time in GMT. The handy clock should make it simple. However, we do use military/24 hour time. It will undoubtedly be an international event and GMT is the only way to coordinate such events.
As in the past, the chat room will serve as an invaluable communication tool for set up, streaming, and connecting to those listening....and it's just a lot of silly fun! I suggest participants get familiar with it in advance, if you aren't already.
If you want a recording of your set, it would be prudent to record your own set, rather than depend on others. Accidents and mistakes happen...especially in this format. There are many ways to record your set, either thru the stream app or record your stream from your mixer on the signal path to the computer.
Performers MUST stream at 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz , stereo.
more info about broadcasting on radio.electro-music.com can be found here.
It is IMPERATIVE that everyone test their connections before we start streaming. At least 24 hours before but sooner is preferred. Sorry, but we can not guarantee that musicians will be allowed to stream if you do not test 24 hours before hand. Not only does it delay the schedule, but causes unneeded stress on performer, server operator, and audience during performance time. Join the chat room for testing and help setting up.

Although I like to rail against the BS that FB puts us through, there is one nice feature in "New Facebook." When sharing a post to groups, you are provided a list of groups where you are a member and all one has to do is click on SHARE for each group where you desire to share a post. Just now, I pushed the limits to see when FB would complain and after sharing to **38** groups, nary a complaint from FB! That doesn't mean that one isn't forthcoming but for now, all seems well. Instead of doing 38 individual shares under "Classic FB," I was able to so the same thing much more efficiently. Go figure! FB allowed one of its pieces of meat, er, um, I mean, users to do something efficiently! YIKES!!!
The point is, I shared this in a LOT of FB groups. Perhaps electro-music might get more members and the Equinox schedule might fill up faster than of late.
Cheers, _________________ Bill Fox------------------|\-------------

Yes BUTT will do it.
Download BUTT from https://sourceforge.net/projects/butt/ the current version, which I will use for this gude, is 0.1.22
Run the program:
When you had a previous installation you will still have the old settings and may be able to use those, but you should verify the port settings.
To verify the port settings:
- Select the "Server" you want to use.
- Click the "Edit" button, and verify the settings to be ok, see the section "To set up a server connection" below to see what the correct settings are, then proceed to the below section "After this you need to set up your audio".
If no previous settings were present you'll need to set up a server connection and you'll need to set up your audio.
To set up a server connection:
- Click on "settings" and in the "butt settings" window go to the "Main" tab.
- When you have something under "server" it found some old settings and you may be able to skip some steps here.
- If nothing ... click on "add", and type something under "name", this can be any text to help you identify the connection.
- Select "Shoutcast"
- under "address" put "electro-music.com" (without the quotes).
- For the port use the port that has been assigned to you, you can find the port assignment in the schedule at : https://electro-music.com/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Radio.NextSpecialEvent (scroll down to the bottom).
- The password for the ports 8130, 8132, 8134, 8136 and 8138 is "public" (without the quotes).
- Then click on "Save" to save the settings
You now have the server connection set up, and you'll want to
set a stream title:
- under "Stream infos" select a possibly earlier used info set, or click "add" to add a new one.
- when adding a new one you give the settings a name under "name", this is arbitrary text just for you to be able to recall the settings.
- Under "Description" give a description of your stream, this is publicly viewed information once your stream is running (in the listener's audio player).
- You can also give a "Genre" and put an "URL" if you have a web site you'd want advertized. Other fileds are not being used, so they can be kept empty.
- Leave "Make seerver public" OFF.
- Click "add" to save the new settings.
- Back in the "butt settings" screen select the settings you want to use.
- Now go to the "Stream" tab, and under "Update your song manually" type a song name, and hit "OK" to apply that. This info will show up in the listenr's stream player.
After this you need to
set up your audio:
- In the "butt settings" window select the "audio" tab.
-Select your audio device and set the following parameters : Channel=Stereo, SampleRate=44100Hz, Codec=MP3, Bitrate=128k.
- Butt can be used to auto record whatever you are streamong out, the settings for recording are under "Recording", this is not relevant for the streaming process, but also look at the "record" tab then.
When this is done you should do a local test to see if your audio setup is working:
- Make some sound on the audio device you selected above, the VU meters on the main BUTT screen (showing butt 0.1.22 for the current version) should start moving.
- if not you will need to fiddle with your audio setup till they do move, it is no use to proceed when they do not.
Ok ... nearly there now ...
- In the main butt window hit the play button, the whit right pointing triangle |>
- in the info section it should say stuff like "connecting to electr-music.com" and then "Connection established"
- it also shows the settings used, Shoutcast, mp3, 128kbps, 44100Hz - if not that review your server connection settings.
When this is all ok, you can do a remote self check on the electro-music server:
- Go to https://electro-music.com/~janpunter/radio_info_test.php
- There should be a yellow speaker symbol for the port you are streaming on, if so you are connected to the server.
- You can monitor the stream (note: this will NOT work in the Chrome browser) by clicking on the play button, upping thevolume and make sure the stream is not muted.
- When using the Chrome browser clicking on the yellow speaker symbol may open a downlaod to an m3u file which can be used in an external audio player.
- It would be best to monitor the stream on a different device from the one you are streaming from, maybe use your phone.
After all that it may be a good idea to have someone do a level check on your stream, for that it is best to go to the chat and ask someone there to do it for you .. the chat is a bit quiet though lately so this may need some patience.
For the stream operators (and note to self): please be in the chat a bit during this week :-) _________________ Jan

Escape Velocity earned a star for testing on port 8130 just now and I wanted to put it in the wiki but I have forgotten how to edit that page...
Or perhaps I don't have the privileges to do so any more?
In any case, EV is go. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum
