bet that wire is the nice teflon insulated stuff, too, esp if your co does military work. Man, there's just nothing better on the face of this earth than that stuff, other than asparagus.

asparagus ......... Question Laughing

Yes, you got that right Scott. It's the teflon stuff. I love it also since the insulation does not creep up onto the wire when heating the stuff. Admittaly, you do need a good stripper (easy does it, not the dancing kind) to get the insulation off cleanly but its great to work with Very Happy

I thankfully have access to spools of all different colors. The colors can encode various busses in a backplane when wiring.

Having a panel has vaulted me to a new level of Kleedom. I find myself moving on instead of recording stuff I would have back in the breadboard days (has it been less than a week?).

This is a sample of the electro-music Klee driving two voices (the same voices in the previous sample) and two CGS Electronic Toms (it's a tiny PCB, so I could fit it in on the workbench - I've got a very cool drum voice waiting in the wings). The Tom's are triggered from gate bus triggers 1 and 2. One voice is gate bus 3, and the other is the master gate bus. I was just at a place to punch record. I think it's one of the best Klee lines I've recorded yet, though the recording is only "workbench" quality and mono at that.

If you want to hear light years beyond breadboarded Klee, try out this sample - this is the electro-music Klee we envisioned doing all the work. I've never gotten things like this out of a standard step sequencer, not all in one take, anyway (this is one take).

It's a product of on-the-fly gate bus and merge switch manipulation. I find it amazing to think the whole thing just comes out of one row of 16 pots.

I'm ecstatic with this thing - I hope your all's works as well as this one (and I think they will).

Cheers,
Scott

Wow Scott, Great Stuff!!!

I really like the last one with the CGS Toms. As you said it is amazing that all that sound is coming from a 16 stage shift register with 16 pots!

Keep the samples coming! Very Happy

Tim

the schaeffer panel arrived and i just started mounting the components. the color tone is actually a little bit darker than the foto suggests, more the famous "british racing green" of the mini cooper (i had one for about ten years). i like it!
can't wait for the PCBs. i am already playing with the sliders! it's the first time used sliders and i wished i had made a mounting PCB to reduce the count of screws on the frontplate, kind of krunkus style!

I reckon it looks fucking awesome Fonik! Extra screw heads and all! Very Happy Cool

BTW, if you want them to blend in more, you can get countersunk Phillips head screws in black, which would match the knobs etc.

that would have been nice, since i will use black led holders. i was looking for something like that, but couldn't find any source for black M2x6, at least in germany, and so tended to believe they even don't exist at all...

Oh, they exits alright. I recently discovered a trade supplies shop in Coffs Harbour, they've got heaps of handy stuff! That's where I got the screws for my slider panel (3mm * 8mm CS) in stainless steel. Great quality stuff. They were only about $8 for a hundred. Shits all over the range and prices for hardware at electronic suppliers like Dick Smith or Jaycar.

The next thing I'm going for are 4mm * 6mm long, Countersunk, Hex head, Black. And I reckon they'll have 'em too. You should have seen the rows of cabinets! Cool

From the looks of the side of your panel, maybe you want some too? Very Happy

Holy shit, I just wet myself !!! Oh, that is very awesome Fonik !!! I was not so sure of the green theme but shit, it really looks snazzy!! Wait a minute here, do I see a MIDI connector? Did I miss something? I also love the mount for the MIDI connector. Where did you get that connector and mount? Am I babbling? Shocked

Beautiful panel, indeed Fonik! The green reminds me of those Triumph TR-7s I lusted after when I was in high school (the shape of things to come). Fortunately, I was never able to afford one then....

Here's a re-do of the previous sample. This is a Klee first for me, because normally once I recorded something on the breadboard and turned it off, it was gone for good. There were so many pattern "switch" wires, it was just too big of a pain to trace which one was which and ground/unground the appropriate ones. But, on the panel, the pattern is there if one just "saves" it with the pattern switches.

So, I re-recorded the sample to balance it out and make it a bit clearer. I lowered the mix on the drum voices, raised the "high" voice a bit in the mix, and got rid of the reverb. It's more or less an excericise in repeatibility in the Klee, which I never strived to do on the breadboard. I think it passes that test! Very Happy

I'll have to write this one down on Theff's patch sheet.

Cheerios,
Scott

well, i intend to implement marc bareilles midi2gate converter mc628 first. and then, maybe later, i will try on a modified midibox cv circuit. sneakthief works on that. the midibox based circuit would have CV PW, the MIDI indicator led will then have to be replaced by a CV in socket...

i was happy to find this MIDI socket myself! no additional screws or cheap tin...

Well, with all this Klee building going on I got inspired to do some more playing around. This sample was made with the help of the CGS burst generator and JH's TAU Pipe. It uses two VCOs, one for the bass pattern and the second for the high pitch repeats. It was recorded with one pass. The CGS burst generator is triggered from the Klee Bus 3 with the merge switch on. My daughter heard it and said it sounded like a video game so the name seemed appropriate.

Regards,

Tim

Tim, that is freakin' awesome! My favorite yet! Did you start out at audio rate then flip to LFO rate? Perfectly named, too, though I notice you didn't go for the alliteration this time (Klee Kommand) Laughing

And, oh, yes - JH's Tau Pipe - oh......my......GAWD!

Edit: Ah, crap, still page 19 Laughing

Hey Scott,

Thanks, your samples are subtle, warm, and planned. My samples are "brute force" with a sledge hammer. I just keep hooking things up until it stops being annoying. Laughing

I did not start with it running at an audio rate. The VCO for the bass track takes two paths: Through a Moog filter and VCA, and also through a 2040 filter straight to the mixer. For the beginning and end of the song the LFO (Klee clock) is stopped and you are hearing the VCO at a fixed pitch going straight to the mixer. I just single stepped the Klee till it stopped on the note that I wanted to start with.

The VC clock (Roland 182 clone) that I mentioned on the "Super Klee" thread works great for starting and stopping at will.

Hi Bill,

It's on this thread:

http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-19983.html&postorder=asc&highlight=klee&start=75

Version 1.1 seems to get the most votes. The original Excel version is there also if you want to move things around or change anything (slider's ?)

Tim

One last sample before crashing tonight. It's kinda weird and dark Confused and was really just an experiment to see what it sounds like when you change the Klee clock with a very slow LFO ramp wave. Better adjustment of the pots is in order for the next attempt.
