First, I noticed (finally!!) the Emu 1616/1616m (basically all microdock based interfaces) will have support in the next release of ALSA.

Also, FreeBoB seems to be collecting quite a list of supported FireWire devices for Linux:

YES! That's brilliant news, especially since I just got a HD that's the exact same model as the one that's in my laptop which I am planning to swap into the laptop and install Linux on.

Well, no MIDI, but I'm hoping that will come soon. Now I can start on that linux distro again (the one with low-latency, simple graphics, and all the e-m.com tools that we all love so much like chuck, Pd, and maybe even some VST/LADSPA/LV2 plugin support.)

Maybe once there's MIDI support, (someone?) can add MIDI control to the mixer, if the linux driver has one.

Maybe that would be the distro for my laptop then. Would you considder including Fluxus? I think Fluxus is in Dyne already and I'm having trouble compiling it on my desktop so far. Fluxus is a system for livecoding graphics (based on Scheme, it has a physics engine and openGL)

If anyone is considering purchasing one, I have a Phonic Helixboard Firewire 12 running perfectly in Ubuntu 7.10 using Freebob 1.0.7. Now if only I could find the alsa jack plugin so I could route alsa audio into jackd -- right now most of my applications are not jack aware (Firefox is a biggie -- no youtube!) but I'm sure this can be corrected if I spent some more time.

Hi, just thought I'd share some info on that jack/alsa plugin in Ubuntu Gutsy. According to this post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4380041 it doesn't work in Gutsy because of a bug, but there may be workarounds.

Thanks Blue Hell.

I stumbled across this section of the forums after lurking in the ChucK section for a bit now. Thought it had a rather low traffic rate and figured my enthusiasm for FOSS and audio could help.

Hmm - I see there is FreeBoB support for the Focusrite Saffire, but not the dsp and mixer section. I wonder if that means it would work with my Saffire LE?
Anybody have experience with the Saffire? And no mixer support sounds like a bummer...

You may want to try the new beta ffado driver (a reincarnation of freebob) as the developers have been given saffires (both pro and LE) to test on, so the mixer (probably not the DSP) should work.

Speaking of freebob, I just got my two Mackie Onyxs working. Assuming you have your firewire card working, the Onyx firewire card seems to work well with freebob. I struggled with this for a long time before plugging mixer A into my Audigy's firewire port and plugging mixer B into mixer A. Turn it on, check with gscanbus, works in Ardour and Rosegarden for me.

Fan-effin'tastic. I'm waiting for an Emagics AMT8 to replace my MOTU MIDI Express XT for Linux and I can kiss Windows good-flamin'-bye. Cool
