Nord Lead 2x Sound Editor |
 |
|
Right I want to be able to upload patches to my lead aswell as save settings I create. What can I use, from looking at some threads I have come across NordGen but whenever I open a .ngf file the windows error send do not send to microsoft error comes up and closes.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something else I can use?
Thanks.

Well, I'm not much of a computer man, but mostly I copy these drivers to C > Windows > System or System 32 and paste there. I never know which one to choose, so I paste them in both folders

I think I have to know more...
Windows version?
Midi cables right?
Midi interface installed (MidiPorts visual in NordGen?) and which one?
NordGen settings right?
Which 'send' command?

that is awesome
I use windows xp, I havent tried to upload anything yet through the cables and interface, I believe that should be fine.
there are alot of patches there - im sorry for being a bit of a noob :/ and I am very grateful for your help.
How do I go about saving a few select patches off my keyboard before putting one of the whole libraries on it?
how many patches can you upload to it? can you mix and match?
thanks again x |

ok also - i've figured how to dump the first 100 patches and save them - really only a 14kb file?
But for some reason it is not recieving anything - the interface detects midi out but the nord doesn't change or make any signs. It is a lead 2x btw |

Sorry for the late reaction, but I have a nasty habit... I want to sleep sometimes

You can play the sound and decide if you want save it internally. If it is not your kind of solund, just upload another into the buffer. In the heat of the battle (Dutch expression translated) you easily press Store, just reset by pressing any Slot button.
This means you don’t need to destroy your banks in the synth the first time you explore sounds. To save single Programs see below (to get NordGen reveive SysEx…) Quote: | how many patches can you upload to it? | 4x99 in the NordLead2X. In the NordLead2 40, or on a PCMCIA card 3x99, but you can use as many cards as you need which results in 99xUnlimited… Quote: | can you mix and match? | By using the buffer memory described above. Beware: Uploading a complete bank replaces the bank in the memory!. The buffer method is much better to use! BTW NordGen can't send complete banks. To check out sounds I use the computer arrows and the return. It does receive bank downloads from the synth. Not Performances. To save these I use Borne’s Send SysEx, which has no interface showing parameters like NordGen.
Quote: | ok also - i've figured how to dump the first 100 patches and save them - really only a 14kb file? | Each single Program is only 139 bytes!!! Only fly-droppings Quote: | But for some reason it is not recieving anything - the interface detects midi out but the nord doesn't change or make any signs. It is a lead 2x btw | In NordGen go to [SysEx] and enable [receive]. On the synth using [Shift+OctShiftUp] will result in changing parameters in NordGen.
Keep in mind the Lead is a grand dame of 16 years in production! Is there a synth which became older? And NordGen is created around 1998, you know, in those days coal provided the power of the computer…

I'm somewhat getting there - it dumps the seperate sounds that I want to save (that I made myself) - still can't preview a sound or make the nord 'recive' sounds from the editor - are you ever on chat dude? |

yeah - ok I seem to be getting there slowly but surely - for some reason I need to change the midi out and re select the correct one in order for it to work - now tryin to get my head around downloading your full libraries and uploading them - how do you do it so that you do not the wrong bank? Say for instance I want to keep my first hundred but want to replace the second hundred.
Glad I've started to understand - thanks to you |

There is a file called 'n2lib2b3.mid' Drag&Drop this into NordGen and all 99 will be there. What I do is using the computer keyboard Up&Down arrows to select Program (Patch) one. You can click the [send] button and the data is in the Buffer memory, so not in the real memory yet. Play the sound and use the Wheel to. You want to save this in the synth press [Store] and scroll to the memory location you want to be overwritten. Press [Store] again and you are done Scroll to the next Program in NordGen. I use the [return] and not [send]
I suggest to play the files first and running all 99 again, so you know what you want and what not. And make notes. In the archive there is a 'doc' file. Use this!
Uploading the 'n2lib2b3.mid' file in a software sequencer will upload the complete bank into the memory, destroying it as a result… And we don’t want that to happen, do we? Oops... Told you already... Take your time and enjoy it. I always find it much fun to explore a Program, change parameters and if I like it I make an upload into NordGen [DumpOne = Shift+OctaveUp], so I won’t lose that sound. There is a risk you create a complete new song

First, what is your computer? It won't work on a Mac...
Second, what OS? Vista, XP or earlier?
Then, do you have a Midi interface connected with two Midi cables between the synth and the computer?
I important to understand it's not a real time editor, so changing a knob doesn't show in the tool until you preformed the command [Shift+DumpOne] on the synth.
Be reading you...

Are you using M-Audio USB Uno MIDI interface or another one? And in what did you connected the audio cables?
Start the tool and go to Midi In. Is the drop down menu showing the Motu?
And so does the Midi Out?

Are those 'Yoke' ports special Midi ports? I would select [828mk2] in both menu's. If you check it again, they will probably have been changed. That's a bug in NordGen. Select at MidiIn the [828mk2].
Is the Midi In on the Motu connected with the Midi Out of the synth?
If so, perform [Shift+DumpOne] see if the parameters (knobs) in NordGen has changed...
